but my ankles don’t.

You are so right about ankles being important for riding.

I am an older rider who had to stop riding for over a year due to Covid lockdown. When I resumed last April, it was my ankles that were the problem, particularly as I dismount using a stirrup and my left ankle.

I did a google search and found NHS ankle exercises, from St Thomas's I think. I bought the stretchy rubber band needed and lost some weight. The combination of exercises and lighter weight has solved the problem.

It was not immediate nor wondrous. Our yard staff are very patient with me but it does mean I can ride.

Hi thank you for your reply. Iv been doing exercises for years with physio helping, but it’s not doing any good. Iv lost 2st recently and it still hasn’t helped. That’s why I wondered if there were any special stirrups I could buy. Tracey

Hello & welcome :)

You should have lots of choice when it comes to stirrups, so it's mainly just finding what works for you. Hopefully you can get back to enjoying riding soon with happy ankles!
