thanks to everyone for the help and advice given re Pidge and the diagnosis of his Hock Spavin. I would just like to say how much I appreciate the honest opinions, advice and kind thoughts of people on here. I just goes to show what a good place this can be

Just a small good news story, one of my liveries has a 27 year old mare with a spavin on each hock she was retired due to her age and other problems 3 years ago, was on 3 bute a day, 3 joint supplements etc etc and the outlook was fairly poor. With 24/7 turnout they have finally settled and she is looking so well she came back in to ridden work again 6 months ago (she very low level work but she is an old lady!) She now has no supplements or bute and the vet has said her ability to move around the whole time and the fact she is doing a bit of work has really helped her move on, she is now looking younger by the year - we reckon she'll make 40! Good luck with Pidge, I think you'll be fine.
 
Well done, you have turned the corner to being a more positive owner..... 'think not of all the things he may not be able to do, but think of all the things you have not done yet (but still can).

When I was told not to jump Merlin again (since been told can do so lightly) I actually thought hard and realised it wasnt the end of the world as a bad fall last year had dented my confidence badly anyway, so good excuse not to!!!!!

Its just like the scenario of the ladies who are told that at 45 they have to have a hysterectomy!!!! they really cant have any more babies (I think) but will grieve the loss of the part of them that makes it possible!!! Its all about choices and no one likes being told what they can and cant do.

Glad to hear that. Haven't responded to your posts as one of those people who don't know what to say. Sorry. But I have been thinking of you. Can't help any advise sorry. But keep your chin up!!! And hope it all turns out well for you.
 
thanks am going to take him for a short hack tomorrow, would have taken him today but had to work till 7.45pm and then out at 8pm for a darts knockout, so will see how he is tomorrow night.
