Thanks to all who advised me on taking shoes off one of mine and changing the care of my other mare who has been barefoot.
Changed their diets, and a month or two after doing that took the front shoes off of my bigger mare. She didn't seem to notice, and little one seemed fine also but they were both on a private yard so no hard standing anywhere just soft, wet grass fields.
Moved them to a livery yard last Saturday, where the only soft surface is the field.The rest is gravel/smooth concrete (though I'll be getting rubber mats for their stables). Well, neither of them are footie at all so far
Have watched them moving on the smooth surface and over the stoney bits and they aren't at all bothered. Before the diet change my little mare was footie and precious over similar surfaces! So pleased
