SNAP!!! There was just no way I could have gone today - would love to hear more and see any pics too!

I just PM'd Ciss to say the same thing. Bloody cold but have to say there are some seriously nice stallions in the UK at the moment.

My personal highlights were Showmaker - god I am so glad I have a mare in foal to him, for a big horse he is light on hus feet, the ease of his movement is wonderful, nothing forced or exageranted, he has suspension and elasticity oozing from him with a super attitude too. I was surprised how much I liked Millenium, very impressive looking and moving horse and a very proven competitor. Master of Kyra K - brought 2 offrping and god good do they have grand prix stars stamped all over them. master himself is smaller than I expected but he really really produces the goods. Also a Master grandson there by Sandro Hit called Sandro Dancer who had the fabulous Master hind leg.

Treliver Decanter looked very well and Garuda K kept the Trakehner flag flying (even if he is graded BWBS) - a beautiful horse and so light and elegant.

Of the eventers I think I have my stallion for Gerty sorted at last - Set Adrift a TB by Slip Anchor belonging to Paul Wyatt, beautiful classic Tb quality but also has superb elasticity in his movement for a TB. Of the other eventers I liked Up With the Lark, a little workmanlike in stamp compared to Set Adrift but didnt put a foot wrong.

I think I liked Lauriston the best of the jumpers, but a little straight through the hind leg would be a fault but he is a very ncie stamp of horse and again what a production record.

Of the ponies, there was coloured dutch bred called Daydream who was a cracker, superb walk, lovely stamp, very very nice little warmblood!

Lots of other very nice horses but those were my favourites

Thanks for that report.

I too love Showmaker and am interested that you liked Daydream. I thought he looked very nice from his CHAPS grading photos and would have loved to have seen him in the flesh.

Sorry!!

Of the ponies I think Trenawin Lanikai or Georgeo 2 would suit my mare to a Tee. Daydream is a beautiful mover, would be interesting to see how he progresses over the next few years.

Wesuvio really caught my eye, although he was down as 16.1h to me he felt a small 16.1hbut a nice sort, pleasing to watch. McGuigan was also a pleasure to watch. We were looking more towards the smaller horses and the ponies.

My Dad would have taken Stravinsky home in a flash, and is contemplating searching for a mare to suit him, or one to suit Cloud Nine.

Set Adrift was beautiful. Stanhopes Diddycoy seemed to be doing it all for fun which is always a nice attitude to see.

Didn't stay to watch the dressage stallions, as we wanted to see the ponies in their stables/lorries before we left. Will sort the photos ASAP

My notes say lovely stamp, a lot to like but would have liked a little better action in the hind leg.

Thank you!

I have been to a few stallion shows in Germany over the past year and there were alot of stallions there today who would most certainly have held their own in Germany which I find very exciting for the future of british breeding. If I was looking for a dressge stallion I would no longer need to look in Germany!!
Well done Ciss and the rest of the team!!
Hubbie is currently working on the photos as we speak but there are over 800 of them so it might take a little while to get them up on our website.

If I was looking for a dressage stallion Showmaker would have been right at the top of my list, he was so light on his feet and all being well will make Grand Prix easily. Has a fabulous temperament to. Garry Williams was aying that he has a couple of his colts at home and he is very impressed with them and their movement.

A very nice looking stallion indeed. So if he did his 30 day test in Germany and has done exceptionally well in the UK, I presume this will add towards his sport career with the Westfalens as well, in being fully Approved with them besides the BWBS, or did he also do his 70 day test before coming over to the UK?

Volatis no wonder you chose him..

Very exciting young stallion for breeders over here.

Showmaker was fabulous, the real highlight of the show. I adored Woodlander Rockstar and now have him lined up for one of my mares! Woodcroft Garuda K was also a favourite of mine.

Millenium looked really well, and seeing him in the flesh made up my mind that I like him, I wasn't so taken with Master but that is probably personal preference.

I was looking more at the dressage stallions so didn't pay so much attention to the earlier stallions - I did watch McGuigan though as my farrier has a mare in foal to him, and he's a nice compact little horse - if I was breeding that kind of horse, I'd definately be interested in him.

For me the highlights were Showmaker, Sandro dancer[ for a 4yr old he showed a maturity that was outstanding. Combined with exellent conformation and an ability to balance on the hind leg with a clear match to the diagonal pair in the trot] I also loved the Holstein stallion who showed good quality everything as well as temperment, which can sometimes be lacking in this bloodline.[Landtanzer]
Millenium does not do it for me not enough from behind all front and not enough 'through' transmission, showed in his changes in particular.Thought the Master group with the off spring were lovely and Goodtimes is really an amazing old chap but showing his age, but i think the quality of his off spring and the fact that he is a true sport stallion makes you forgive him that!!
Then of coarse was the wonderful 20yr old Stravinsky the most approved TB anywhere. He was smashing If you want to put quality/blood on some thing then he would get my vote.
Ther was agood range of stallions and it was very heartening to see so many people.
I think, talking to a few people there is a lot to be excited about in Briish breeding with the likes of Celia and the BEF futurity ther will be improvement but we do have to be more critical of our own so that we can compare to the rest of Europe.

Partoow, I agree that Millenium wasn't really through, but I did think it was more tension than anything else, and perhaps a little bit to do with he's quite an old chap now and maybe struggling more with stepping under than he would have done in his youth.

I'm just sorting the photos, will put them in the Picture Gallery

Heres a taster...

Cloud Nine - Oldenburg, Graded AEs (Lando/Olivia)

No Touchwood i knew him quite well in his prime years and he found that freedom and fluency of movement difficult, you are right tension has actually quite often been a big problem for him and that has a lot to do with his temperament. Laura has always done a really good job with him and managed to keep a lid on him but there have been many days where he has spent a lot of time on his hindlegs!!
Like has been said its a very difficult road to get a horse to GrandPrix and he is exraordinary in that respect but for many i dont think alot of his 'traits' would suit a lot of mares or make them desirable to ride.
When you watch the likes of Showmaker and the Sandro Dance you WANT to ride that and it would be suitable for a huge range of mares and then riders.

Did Brendons Stud take any of their young stallions like El Thuder/Chablis Z? I think that they were planning to .... Also Caretino Glory/Unbelievable Darco? Interested to hear if they did, and if so, what people thought of them ..... Going to see Millenium at Hobgoblins Stud Open Day next weekend, also Devils Jump, and a number of other interesting stallions ....

Thank you everyone for all the nice positve things you have said -- I'll pass them on to the team :-).

Brendon couldn't come becuase of family illness but did have a trade stand Hopefully CG -- a special favourite of mine -- will be there next year :-).

My paticular favourites were pretty much the same as Partoow's (the black trio Master, Stravinsky XX and Sandro's Dancer and the powerful Holstein Landtanzer which I am really surprised no-one has mentioned! plus Dewin of course :-) but that does not mean that they are better than any of the rest -- all were graded of course :-) -- just a little more to my taste.

I must admit that I did begin to wonder whether my breeding choices had moved forward over the years when I realised that 20 year old black jobs that I first seen when they were both about 6 years old (Stravinsky at the DV grading and Master in his famous Torchlight Kur at Flyinge) were what I went for, but when Sandro's Dancer came in I realised that it is because all of them are pretty much modern types (despite their age in the case of the two old boys) and also have correct athletic paces, super conformation that can deal with whatever the FEI throws at them and excellent temperament for top class sport.

Of course my high point was actually getting to give Master a rosette (apparently Kyra kept texting all day to find out how he was getting on whilst she was getting his son Max ready to go to the World Cup final :-)) and then going to see him in his box. I know Carolyn Murdoch who looks after him quite well as she used to be head girl at New Priory so it was also quite a meeting of the clans as far as that was concerned too.

Now back to composing a thank you letter to all the stallion owners etc for taking part.

BTW if any of you picked up the expressions of interest letter in joining the PSHP and have realsied that there is no return address on the form blame Jan (she forgot to put it on!) but PM me for the address to which to send it! Hope you liked The British Breeder too.

Thank you again to everyone for coming and making it such a memorable day.

Photos going up now in the PG, I'm afraid they are mainly of the ponies/small horses as thats what we have! I do have some video too, but I've only had that camera a week or so, and haven't yet worked it, but hopefully there will be some video up soon too!

Sorry that Brendons weren't able to make it, but it sounds like a brilliant event - wish we could have been there. But there's always next year!! (And thanks, Ciss, he's the sire of my 10 month old and he was looking especially gorgeous when we saw him at their Open Day ...)

Wow, fab pic of Cloud Nine, i saw his foal at the kwpn gradings last year and he blew me away! He was literally just a month old i think and was so supple and well put together, i am pretty sure he won the foal jumping section that day. Very nice! i will def use him in the future if i buy a jumping mare.
