Well what an eventful afternoon /evening I have had. For those who read my previous post about choosing between 2 trailers to buy you THANK YOU for confirming my suspicions about one of them and thus making me do a bit of detective work and sniff out a dirty great big rat!!
For those who didn't see it to cut a long story short I had seen 2 traielrs on ebay. Both ifor williams 510.
First one : 2002 model, looked after but some scuffs on outside but in full working order. Good condition inside. Just broken door hinge on top door above front ramp. Spoek to local ifor williams stockist and it's £30 to repair. Have serial number for it to check and spoken to seller. In staffs (I'm in Cardiff) but my grandfather able to go an see it as he is in shropshire. £2300.
Second one: 2004 model, fab condition inside and out, Includes bull dog lock and tack pack. One owner from new. In scotland so couldn't see it but offered free delivery to WALES (alarm bell one)
. All of this for £2000 (alarm bell 2)
and only £2000 if I did a quick sale (alarm 3)
. Didn't know serial number as it is kept at seller's other property 3 hours away from current property of seller (cue alarm 4)
BUT..... seller agreed that I could have a 14 day return policy and pay with paypal so protected and it has full servcie history. New ebay user and no feedback either
SO....cue Kerry asking some advice from HHoers who promptly all said numero 2 sounded far too good to be true and to go with numero 1 which deep down confirmed my instinct.
So....emailed seller of 2 and asked a) if could only pay £500 as deposit before paying in full on arrival, b)signed fax of it in writing that I have returns of 14 days with contact details of seller.
No reply. So i emailed again to ask to ring me and also to ask if it had full service history the serail numbe rowuld surely be recorded. He emailed back and said yes to all. So I asked him to ring me or for his contact number so we could talk.....get much better idea of a person if speak to them I think.
No reply. So i typed in the address listed as sellers address into google as he was registered as business seller with "his name"Ltd included in address. Number showed up on google matching address. Great. Rang it. Oh NO!
The person on the other end of phone had no idea who seller was, had never and never will have a horse and certainly never a horse box. Also, they had received a letter from ebay welcoming the seller as new ebay user. The house owners had never even used ebay so were very confused and rung ebay asking what on earth going on and ebay said they don't send out welcoming letters. The plot thickens!
Needless to say retracted my bid pronto and also emailed seller who still hadn't gotten back to me....he had been very responsive earlier on!!
Reported to ebay and hopefully they will close auction before someone else falls for it! I don;t know how it works as relatively new ebay user but hope they cancel it!
So Grandpa going to see numero 1 on Weds and seem lovely couple. Just goes to show you don't get anything for nothing!!
Anyway thanks all. Magnum Gold for all.
