As I am going for my next ankle op in a couple of days Im going to put down a bed for panni so the stable is ready at a moments notice if needed. Although we will try to keep her out as long as the weather isnt too bad.
I dont want to stray away from the easibed that we normally use but as Im (hopefully) going to be in a leg cast for the next few months I want to deep litter until spring.
I was thinking about using a base layer to add extra absorbancy as there is a small leak in the roof which adds slightly to the wet. Has anyone else used megazorb or wood pellets under their shavings or choice of bedding?
If so what are your thourghts and opinions on this idea or if you have a better suggestion?

This is my 3rd year using wood pellets and I wouldn't change (unless something amazing and cheap comes along!) It takes a few days for them to really settle, but with a good thick bed, they are really easy to muck out and very absorbant.

Megazorb is amazing although havent tried it underneath shavings etc as it is so easy to do anyway and is meant to be deep littered. I dont like wood pellets as they compact down and become absolutley solid, dusty and smelly especially if they are deep littered.

Another wood pellet fan. Ideal if you want to semi deep litter too and someone else is doing them for you as they'd only need to scoop the muck out daily (it tends to stay on top in one piece not disintegrate like with shavings) rake it over and add a new bag each week; job done. Very absorbent and nothing easier IMO.

I use Aubiose with wood pellets underneath. It works really well and for horses that are so messy it used to take an hour plus each with the shavings/straw, it now takes 20 mins for each and they look cleaner too and the horses lie down on them more and in more varied
places in the stable.
