your pony kicks the yard owners dog in the face and it can't get up...

=/ yeah this happened yesterday, i wasnt there but the other people i keep my pony with saw it happen and the dog 'fly through the air'

im not sure what happens now, i can imagine it is going to be awkward for me (i dont think i should be blamed but you cant help it can you when your animal is injured), however the dog shouldnt have been in the field annoying my pony! shes the most docile mare ive ever known and it must have been really annoying her for her to kick out, or have bitten her- the dog is a very disobedient whippet who has a lot of energy.

so be careful with your dogs around horses because this one is now on a drip unable to move with a shattered jaw and possibly more damage and the outlook isnt great :/ i feel awfull although i couldnt do anything about it. im glad i went barefoot with her last week or i think the dog would have been in an even worse condition.

anyone else had similar problems? =/

It's very sad for the dog but don't beat yourself up about it, thease things happen and you pay to keep your horse there.

That is awkward but hopefully owner will be understanding as you say your pony was in her field minding her own buisness.
A huntmans shouted at my pony for aiming a kick at a hound, it ran up behind her in HER grazing field! on our land. My girl was not such a good shot though.
I,m sure whippy whippet will be fine and a lot more careful in the future!

Hobo, how did you deal with that?
I'd be fuming, did they have permission to be on your land in the first place?

As others have said, don't beat yourself up over it, it happened, I would have thought the owner was liable as they allowed the dog in the field and to run free round horses.
Are they expecting you to pay the vet's bill?
Hope the little Whippet survives to hopefully learn from it's experience.
Oz :)

Where I keep my horse, the elderly man who owns the field, well he has a staff who went into the field a few years back and this stupid dog was trying to bite my boys back legs.My horse is barefoot and that dog got one heck of a kick, dog hasnt been in there since, but he would if he could. I have the field to myself and I told the man,if your dog gets hurt its not my fault. He agreed with me.
Im sure things will be ok,afterall that whippy should NOT of been in the field in the 1st place.

Awww poor doggie! Nobody will blame you or the pony or the dog, these things just happen, our cob stamped on a chicken and the chicken wasn't annoying him at all and he isnt usually a chicken killer lol.. Animals will be animals, this is all by and by to owning animals, I wish the doggie well xx

How awful for you, the dog and the YO. Sadly these things happen on yards. Dogs run loose on ours and I am always very conscious of them when I drive onto the property. One was actually run over and killed a while ago - by a member of the YO family (thankfully!?).

If I were you, I'd commiserate with your YO about the accident as soon as you can and ask after the dog's welfare, but don't feel guilty and, other than saying what a nasty accident it was, don't apologise for your pony's actions.

Hmmm glad I don't have the only chicken killer....

My friends sheepdog regularly tried to 'round up' the horses, he got kicked often but never seemed to put him off, hopefully the little whippet will live to fight another day, but hope he's sensible enough to have leant his lesson!

they asked for 3rd party insurance but im not sure where it goes from there, the dog couldnt get up after :( the owner is a 13 year old boy who is in the stage of hating everything and everyone except for this dog! so it makes it a lot worse ! but i'm friends with him and he is upset but understands. the dog is having quite major surgery on his face today due to the shattered jaw, further x rays are being carried out and he has lost a few teeth.

so hope he pulls through- the thing is i'm glad it was the dog and not the kid who owns him- as i know im not 'meant' to know- but i do know for a fact he has been known to show off with his friends and wind up the horses- so maybe it will be a lesson well learnt as a kick to the head could hav killed him / his friends or left them brain damaged and that would be been so much worse. so at the dog's expense it might be a blessing in disguise
