Heard Chocolate creating earlier this morning so we went out to investigate, and the damned herd were out again!
All 25 had joined a few others in what we call the Nursery field, and were grazing quietly, William amongst them. It was obvious how they had got out, a tall fencing post had snapped off at the base and when anything itched the steel gate which is 8 feet by 12 feet had sprung open despite being bolted tight. At least we now know how they were escaping, as both of us had sworn blind we had always fastened the gate . It wasn't obvious until today as the deer fence was holding the post upright.
After last weeks Wild West round up we decided to catch them one at a time, and some followed their friends back into the Deer Park. The good thing was we caught two who are needed for the vet this week so they are now isolated, plus William met the rest. We decided he could stay with the herd, as he is a bit colty and they will soon stop that. It was hard watching them chase him when they all went back in together, but his mate Isabella stuck with him and protected him. I know he's ok now but it was a bit like your child's first day at school!
We have a castration on Friday, some teeth checking and some tet jabs, but at least we won't be chasing round acres and acres catching those we need.
The gate has a rope tied round it and the post will get fixed later, seeing 25 escapees first thing in the morning doesn't make you feel good believe me!

Sounds like it all worked out for the best though, at least they were only swapping between internal fields.

OMG - 25 escapees sounds terrifying! Thank goodness it's from one of your fields to the next.
I can imagine poor little William going from being top dog to underdog - and not taking it that well. He'll settle.

We had an early morning hack out with Flynn which was not helped by my husband waiting until Flynn was a stride past the wheelie bins and then moving them back down the drive. Flynn is now convinced they are growling horse eating monsters. Every other house up the road had them outside which made for an interesting time for C! He'd just got over having to bounce along the middle of the road snorting when a couple of hundred yards in the distance once of the householders came out with his dog and dragged his wheelie bin home. Flynn couldn't believe his eyes! Obviously there was a specially dangerous type of wheelie bin up ahead that had just dragged a man and his dog into the hedge!

His eyes were on stalks and he was shaking - head and legs in front, body sort of leaning back. He did walk past it but oh my goodness he wasn't going to take his attention off the gap in the hedge where the wheelie bin had taken it's previous victim!

You've just got to love him though!
