As per the title really... can't bear having the boy in overnight any longer so he's staying out tonight!!

Just wish these night time temperatures would warm up a little...

Mine's been out since saturday (yorks) and is as happy as larry (Luso x TB). Still gets food and hay morning and evening, so he couldn't care less what his sleeping arrangements are.

Turf 'em out and enjoy no mucking out I say - woo! Its not really that cold at night atm, and cold is not too bad, its the wild wet weather they hate more I think :)

It was warm up here in Yorkshire on Tuesday night, damp but very muggy, my lad was steaming before I even did anything with him in the school.

Problem is the weather changes so much, one night it's cold and you get a frost, next night its muggy and warm at tea time but then can turn very cold during the night, I don't know whether I'm coming or going at the moment, ours go out in 4 weeks, weather they like it or not, not matter what the weather throws as us.

Ours wintered out allll winter even in the snow, and one is a TB, but he wore lots and lots of warm rugs so I'm not too cruel a mummy :)

I know how you feel, it's been a long winter!

2 of mine have been out for about a week, they've got enough grass but they stand forlornly at the gate at bringing in time. I know they'd give it all up for the handful of chaff and measly amount of hay that their fat friends get!

It would be great if they could all go out, even for a couple of weeks but alas, we have too much grass already.

I completely agree you CBFan about the night temps does he have a field friend that stay out to with a rug on next to him so he doesn't get lonely?

I did the same thing last week my TB was out nearly all last year, apart from the heavy snow. This year ive been a right wimp so just went for it, She still gets breakfast tea and hay and shes wearing a heavy weight rug :D
She doesnt care less and no mucking out yipee!

Chuck him out!! Mine have been out 24/7 since the beginning of March and very chilled.
The grass is slowly coming through (could do with some rain?!!), so they are still having 2 feeds a day and a large pile of haylage am and pm.

I have put there rugs in a large dustbin in a corner of their field to save dragging them up and down from the yard, although they enjoyed a few hours 'naked' this afternoon!

Shy went out at the weekend in a lightweight rug *********HURRAH!!!!!******** :D

I've just cleaned out his stable (well the wet litter anyway), and washed the floor. But lots of spare bedding still there if the weather turns.

It is such a relief - I love mucking out (weird I know) usually, but right now I've just had it with it. The change of routine every day is fab in itself :)

Yep smart move! Mine have been out since the beginning of March.....for my own sanity!! LOL Winter has been long and muddy and I needed a break from mucking out. Kinzzy hasn't lost an ounce of weight being out 24/7 and Teddy boy is thriving! Only slight problem I have come across is that he is even more bonded to Kinzzy because they aren't being seperated at night! I'm working on it though.

Ours went out last night :D when I went up to check them this morning they hardly even bothered looking up as too busy stuffing their faces!! They are still having hay/feed at night for now and 37yr old is still rugged at night and rug off in day depending on weather. Shire x is naked whatever.

So nice not to muck out this morning, even though it's just been replaced with poo picking. It's been a long and expensive winter xxx

Ours have lived out all winter with free access to their stables. Two are now unrugged at night, the others are in rainsheets overnight and naked in the day. It's odd this time of year as the temperatures are so variable so like all other horse owners I keep a very close eye on the forecasts.

Thats it - you have all decided my mind - my full ID is going out full time from tomorrow...been waiting and waiting, friend put hers out 3 weeks ago and YO has just turned hers out today for first night - my field tends to get more waterlogged than everyone elses so been waiting until it drys up better, but no tomorrow he can stay out.

YIPPPEEEEE

Well he went out last night WITHOUT a rug!! - he's been naked in a VERY open stable (its an ex bull pen on the side of an open fronted barn) for the last few nights so I didn't feel there was a hell of a lot of difference and he was still alive this morning ;). it got down to about 3 degrees last night but I have the issue of him being VERY itchy moulting and only having a mediumweight rug to put on him as he is an ever-growing heffalump and I can't keep buying a multitude of rugs in his latest size!! lol! so it's rug or no rug!

He had company over the fence, which he is happy enough with and a little bit of grub (graze on and hi-fi lite) to keep him going for a few hours...

Last year I got fed up and chucked him out mid Feb but then we were allowed to feed hay in the field last year - this year we arent - grrrrrr!

He's only been in since december so I really can't complain but I just HATE having them in...

My cob has been in at night since November and I am thoroughly fed up of shoveling s**t every night now! Unfortunately the yard I'm at doesn't allow 24 hour turnout in the winter paddocks so I am moving soon (again!) and next year he is staying out.....until it gets cold and I start faffing about him!!! :) :)
It's going to be -2 degrees in East Midlands tonight btw!

This all makes me very jealous!!!
My pony out right refuses to live out - she brings herself in....if that means going under the fence, over the fence or just through the fence she will bring herself in...One morning when I was trying to persevere with her I arrived at the yard to find her stood outside of her stable with her head resting on her stable :rolleyes:door and she seemed to think it was time to come in :; So she comes in every night of the year. I don't overly mind as I quite like mucking out, and I'm convinced that anything which I attempt to do to make my life easier in regards to Dee she finds a way to reverse this!

Think that the big boys might have to be out tomorrow night. They aren't that bothered about coming in - they come in more for dinner and haylage than wanting the warmth of their stables.

It looks like it's going to be a dry week ahead - so a good opportunity to get them out and have a good spring clean. Besides, the little man is off to boarding school tomorrow - so I can really scrub out his box while he's away.

Normally I would be turning out now too, I just cannot wait for NO mucking out BUT I'm scared witless that Old Mare will get laminitis again after all the horrors we have had over this winter. She's out all day at the moment with no ill effects but I'm terrified of turning her out 24/7....which in turn means her friend has to come in at night too (sob).

She's in the little paddock all day which is going to be home to her for the summer and I am going to try 24/7 turn out when its a bit more eaten down. Dont think I dare just yet though :(

It's not really the weather that makes me bring him in... it's food! The no feeding hay in the field really bugs me but hey ho! thats just about the only thing I dislike about where he is so I just lump it!
