THAT'S THAT THEN...

And why would he be anything else. Imagine waking each morning and the first sickening thought to enter your head would be the utterly tragic loss of a good friend and ride...... Poor man. My thoughts have been with him and pray God I never have to walk in his shoes. May the same God give him the strength to carry on.

I never realised he had him that long.
What a huge hole to leave.
Lets hope 'Little Brit' eases the pain a bit.
RIP Null
Clayton and family and all those who worked with Nev my thoughts are with you.

There are plenty of people on here who don't see the human side of some of these tragedies

Even the most cold hearted of competitors will have formed some form of bond with their mount....if they didn't they simply wouldn't get anywhere...

ETS: In no way meant to be critical, but is it normal for a horse to have gone 4* just two weeks ago, before running again !? I know Pippa took Ensign 3* last week too, but just trying to see through the haze that is my distant memory, and seem to recall that the top horses jumped 2 or 3 events a year at most when i were a lad !?!?

I'm sure that the word "devastated" doesn't even cover it. I totally fell in love with that horse watching his dressage at Burghley - I can't imagine how it must feel to lose a horse they've brought through the ranks like that. He was something special. What a terrible sad loss

Without adding to original post as I feel enough people have already done so will make comment to above that top horses seem to be running far more now that the long format has been dropped....

I cant believe the disrespect CF has received from some forum members. I lost my horse in March this year on a XC course - he broke his neck also - it is the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my life (I am nearly 43). The guilt I feel is still sickening and nothing anybody says makes it go away. I dont think a waking hour goes by when I dont think of my boy and what happened to him when he was trying to do what I wanted him to do. I feel like I killed my friend. I am sure that CF is absolutely devastated. He has to continue to compete despite his feelings because it is his job, but I know he must be suffering terribly!

So sorry to hear that, shauna.
Thankfully I have never had to go through losing a horse in a competition. But whilst I do know how painful it is to lose a horse suddenly, I can't begin to imagine the horror of it happening underneath me.
I too was disgusted at the dissection of a rider's culpability when he had just lost his horse turning a corner.
The crash from adrenalin to despair must have been unthinkable for him, you and anyone in that situation.
It is a devastating circumstance, and I feel nothing but sympathy for anyone who has had to endure it.

I am sorry Shauna that you have experienced such a tragic accident/loss. You musn't blame your self, your horse was enjoying every step of the way and then he went straight to sleep, he died a happy boy you gave him happy times right untill the end and don't forget that, if he didn't want to do it he wouldn't off.

It is a terrible accident what has happened to CF and that is all it is NO ONE is to blame in any way shape or form.
