I used it for the first time last night on my gangly rising 6yo. She does not like anything restrictive at all and can sometimes be funny to lunge but she really liked the draw reins.

This is very interesting, i have an ex-racer i'm re-schooling which i think this would work for. Worth a go anyway!

it's not my invention, TheMule in Comp Riders first mentioned it ages ago, and apparently it's the way Laura B lunges hers.
there's a couple of vids on my youtube of me lungeing mine this way too:

the loop from draw rein to neckstrap stops it slipping back too much when cantering.
i prefer to fix the draw reins to cavesson or headcollar than to bit rings... that way if the horse trips it doesn't pull itself in the mouth. it gets them working in the same frame anyway with no mouth contact.
some people worry about it rubbing under their armpits but tbh i've not had this happen... you can thread the draw reins through a girth sleeve though if you're worried.
if you're worried about the draw reins hanging too low (i've never had 1 tread on them yet, but they look as if they might) then threading them through a neckstrap keeps them safely up out of the way, and changes the angle slightly, more as if you're holding the reins.
it's very obvious to the horse where to go, really encourages the good stretch forwards downwards.

Thankyou If I can find some draw reins on the way home I will definitely give it a go this evening I did have some draw reins that I walked my unruly staffie on but they have gone AWOL in the house somewhere... I guessing my father has found a use for them?
