As some of you may remember, I posted a couple of weeks ago about 2 mares that died in the field. I was told that some form of tetanus was suspected, but it has now been confirmed that it was a condition called 'atypical myopathy'. Apparently it is extremely rare and not a lot is yet known about it. The vets are doing lots of research at the moment and hoping to find out as much as possible.

A few years back there were several deaths in broodmares on a French stud. This was the reason and it was thought that it was triggered by the humidity and unusual warmth for the season which allowed a mould to flourish. Hope it remains a rare occurence
