The agility thread

We've cancelled training tonight; it's indoors but we don't want anyone stranded and unable to get home.

Snow has not stopped play at home for us so far and managed to get a lot of jump skills stuff accomplished, on the days the ground hasn't been frozen hard, but suspect tomorrow will be a write-off. 😬

I am entered at Point Zero at Onley Equestrian on Sunday but not feeling very enthusiastic seeing the weather forecast. At least it is only about 4 miles away so no need to stay if too miserable. I can monitor the classes from home and just go back if I feel like it.

I am also entered on Sunday (and also Saturday for the ABC).
Not trained for a month as all training has been canceled.
Hard to get enthusiastic about it.

Our training was cancelled for tonight, we probably could have got away with it but I'm glad I wasnt trying to get down the lane in the snow cause I'm a wuss driving in the snow.

Our training was cancelled for last night as the roads had been so bad, little lanes that aren't gritted so we haven't done anything since well before Christmas. Mine will be somewhat excited if we do go.
Our training cancelled too and with my holiday away plus Christmas the girls have done nothing. However, sometimes a break does them good so if I go Sunday it will be interesting to see how it goes. Last show I went to was there when there was rain of biblical proportions and looks like this Sunday will be the same. Happy swimming 🏊‍♀️

I went out last night at the time we would have been returning from training, abandoned cars everywhere, all roads in were impassable.

I see DSD are going ahead today 🤨

It’s deeper than a small dog but the big one is having a wonderful time.

Left home at 6.30 this morning - luckily I couldn’t see the black ice which was reported all over fb throughout the morning, 65 miles I think to Pawsability 🤦🏼‍♀️

I tried a new way of Handling weaves yesterday which helped loads today - first run was agility, that was exciting for Rew, I think we randomly backjumped. Combined jumping was also an E can’t remember why, final agility was better, just popped out once at the 10th weave. Put him back on the A frame as he (will never get an A frame contact I don’t know why I bloody bother) was 2’ above the contact when he kept off, thereby E’ing us… I was the last to run in G1 and the only one not E at that point!

Anyway, I’d be interested in views on the juxtaposition here, tunnel used both ways, weave exit. Carnage tbh. I have no axe to grind as I waited until the other class had closed before I ran, but dogs were being drawn out of weaves. Both g1-3 classes. Do judges share their plans with others- would have been sensible to change something here in imo but happy to be wrong with that.

That’s a tough one for 1-3 dogs imo . Not very substantial fencing either .

That looks like it's just builders netting? Very poor course design IMO and the set up looks like an accident waiting to happen at any level ever mind G1-3.

I have just tried to put some stuff in my car ready for my early start tomorrow and I can't open the doors as they are so frozen 😬 Bodes well for my 6.45 start tomorrow. On the plus side I have a new thermal long sleeved top to go under all the layers. Not any old top it's a M&S top 😂

I’ve got a M & S thermal top , it’s fabulous .

I have thermal leggings from Lidl at I think £6, I wear them under my patterned leggings, they’re very good!

Yes builders netting, that’s the standard wherever I compete.
I guess we're quite lucky round here. Rings separated with the metal barriers and often have the thicker mesh attached too on areas where seeing other dogs could be a problem. 3 clubs running shows within an hours drive all at equestrian venues so usually decent parking, cafe and loos. Do like a cafe and decent loo 😂

You are very lucky. Rumour has it that the only indoor show venue in Devon will close its doors to dogs after being recently sold. Then my closest will be where I went today, 65 miles and about an hour and a half away. Lovely venue but none of my friends go, today I didn’t know a single persons name all day, of course people are friendly and do chat, but no one to share your E or placing, take a video, have a coffee with, well that’s okay occasionally but not all the time. It kind of plays into the hands of not competing KC, and just doing the training - although I can’t find a decent training club less than 100 mile round trip either!

It's the social side that makes the difference. Cheering each other on, having someone to give honest feedback, the videos the coffee and cake together it's all part of the day and occasionally to celebrate with 😂Whilst the matrix pees me off there is no A4A in the East so I'll stick with KC for now and there are plenty of shows round here.

There is one Agility for all show in Devon each year, the next closest one I can see is Cheltenham, which is 130 miles away! I’ve lived in Devon all my life and have never felt out on a limb until I started agility! 🤣. And yeah the social side, coffee, cake, ice creams, holding each others dogs, taking photos of wins or E’s… that’s the fun bit.

We braved the ABC British Agility Championships today. Probably never been colder at a show.
On paper we had 3 eliminations. In reality we had a fantastic day. One silly mistake in each of the first 2 runs. The last run was clear but I eliminated him after he broke his wait and I put him back on the startline.
Didn't feel overwhelmed and the courses were great. Beautiful lines. Did I mention it was cold 🥶
Back tomorrow for Point Zero. Currently in a pub b&b.

Good luck for today, hope you stay warmer and he sticks his wait!

He did not stick his wait. I removed him from the ring in our first run after 2 failed attempts at waiting.
6 hours to our next run and he did wait!!!
Got E'd on a part I made a poor handling choice (still getting used to these 6-7 courses)
There was going to be another hour or so until our next run so I came home.
With the very early start yesterday, it's been a long weekend.
Looking forward to Vision at the end of the month. We also have a workshop with Tunde Bell next week. I haven't trained with her before so interested to see how that goes

Just back after a very long and cold day 🥶 left home at 6.45 for an hours drive. Daz was in first at 8.30. Combined 123 agility and a tough course. Got all her contacts but decided she didnt know how to weave.....but tbf the entry was really hard. So 10 plus time. Pebs well she flew in the 4/5 which was a nicer course I thought. She then decided to do an extra tunnel 🙈 Then a long long wait until the last class and Pebs was amazing but I got in her space so she back jumped. Then with Daz I really worked it and I was determined not to make the same mistake again. She not only went clear but was inside the time...just...and we won 🏆🥳 very pleased and much needed. Out of all the 3/4/5 dogs she was the only one not eliminated! A very long and very cold day.

I was there today and it was bitterly cold. I did 2 runs this morning, both E's as my girl was wildly excited to be back at a show. Broke both waits and with courses that needed me to be well ahead that was a disaster. Some good bits and she enjoyed herself. Came home at lunchtime as it was going to be a long wait and I just can't cope with the cold as I get older.

You all did well to get out to shows, we were essentially snowed in until late Saturday due to road closures. It was deeper than the big dog's hocks in places on the footpaths. Then yesterday although the roads were clear it had partially melted and re-frozen everywhere else and was a nightmare to get about on, big icy lumps everywhere. I now have one remaining iceberg in the garden and the rest of it has flooded. 😬

Despite meticulous paw balm/washing/drying/creaming the salt has set off one of the big dog's feet, the boot of sadness has been deployed. Thankfully our venue has opened again today so we can be indoors on sand tonight.

Aw poor big dog . I went to A4A at Alsager yesterday, still snow on fields (and my drive 😏) here but all gone within about 5 miles . Z was even gobbier than usual , including having a shout at the judge who was tucked behind the tunnel as he exited , luckily she thought it was funny .A 5f and 2 clears resulting in a 2nd 3rd and 4th . 4th was our first time in Senior s/c and his little and my old legs just weren’t fast enough !
Hope your venue is going to be ok for the weekend bc 🤞

The snow didn't last long round here. Roads were pretty clear by the next day and snow all mostly gone by evening. Will be glad to get back to training on Wed, try and get my dog's over enthusiam reined in a bit before the little show I am at next Sunday. Smaller rings there, much kinder to my old legs.
