the alternative "SAVE ME!

"Written by Brian may of the SAVE ME campaign. Well done Dr.Bri, we all support you." For anyone else who cannot read!

You got it scratchline i cant read,(or cant be arsed to read!) but i was thinking your more of a copy and paste kinda person, to much effort for you to write that!!!!
Hey my next door neighbour just lost her chickens yesterday, nasty mr fox its not his fault tho he's only hungry!!!
Wonder why he's hungry maybe the is too many foxes about??? Or is it the farmers fault? I bet scratchline can copy and paste an answer from somewhere!!!HA

I have to confess I also did not realise that Mr May had written this. I have always thought people who insist on flaunting there doctorate in circumstances where it has no relevance,to be insecure and trying to prove somthing. If it is his intention,to show that he is an intelectual who,s opinions should be taken seriously,I am afraid he has fallen short of the mark. Why, because I mistook it for scratchlines ramblings. His "arguments" rely on emotive wording ,and are incoherant. His comments about "Savannah theory" and predators.LOL . Stick to what you understand Mr May.

i cannot take anymore of Scratchlines sarcasm and unpleasantness, which i hasten to add is unfounded, i have put him on ignore- i recommend this to all who want to save their sanity!

If that screed is supposed to give a flavour of Brian Mays accademic ability, I can only assume that his doctorate is an honorary one, rather than one achieved by submitting a dissertation, although perhaps his knowledge of astrophysics is more comprehensive and better referrenced and researched ( One would hope so anyway, as that is barely GCSE level IMO)

As you are so new to the forum I am suprised you are so vocal but as you are you sadly also show your ignorance! I post all my own thoughts on this forum and this is my first c&p posting.
You wonder why a fox gets hungry? Please, so you dont get hungry and need to eat?! I realise you are trying to make your mark but so far you are just skidding about looking silly.

Being hungry starts the problem but the it's the foxes nature that precipitates it. If a fox manages to get into a coop it will kill every single chicken and eat the heads. Why? Not out of sport but simply because the brain is the most nutritious part of the bird. The fox kills them all for the reason that it can then take the 'leftovers' and hide them for when it's slimmer pickings. The reason hens are left isn't because the fox left them from its own volition, it is because it was disturbed.

My own hens are about as secure as they can get. I have a slate shed that they sleep and roost in (completely fox chew proof) and wire fencing around the perimeter which is buried under the ground to a depth of about a foot. In addition to this there is a strip of electric tape along the top and bottom - my dogs don't like it much so I guess foxes wont either. I haven't actually seen any foxes around here before but it is protection I have taken just-in-case. As a smallholder I can afford to put up this security but it still cost me nearly £500 for 16 chickens! The fence is only about 100m along the perimeter...Imaging how much that would cost to a farmer housing 10000 chickens!?

More money should be spent on helping farmers protect their livestock rather than campaigns to protect the foxes. Protecting the farmers livelihoods would in turn protect the fox anyway.

And Scratchy - before you bleat on about me being new. It takes new blood to improve stock. You really are as vile as everyone warned me. I now have you on ignore so I wont have to listen to any more of your ramblings which are based on neither knowledge or experience.

Fantastic post and I wouldnt dream of saying anything about you being new. That was directed at someone being very silly in their manner of posting to and about me.
I agree with your post especially about financial help for farmers to fox proof. I have on many pro sites suggested the work could be done by those of us involved in this debate, both sides and all agreed. I would freely give my time. I have also suggested rather than compensate for lost stock, paying farmers to take the time and effort to trap and humanely despatch problem foxes.

The one sticking point as always is this. They actually want to go out and kill foxes by ripping them apart with dogs and will listen to nothing else. Deep down they have a lust for the foxes blood that cannot be quenched by any forward thinking idea. Tradition hey.

That is not the solution - that is part of what is going on at the moment and all it will result in is the fox as a species becoming extinct. Please think about the consequences of your suggestions before you voice them - some idiot might agree with you.

There are plenty of rabbits about, in fact the reason there are so many rabbits is that the foxes are going for easier pickings. Giving farmers the resources to allow them to keep foxes away from their stock is the easiest solution - they already provide subsidies for deer fencing - why not fox - the two could be done at the same time for not much more cost.

Stopping the foxes taking chickens and lamb wont leave them starving - there are definitely enough bunnies about :)

Deer fencing is extremely expensive and fairly impractical in a lot of situations. Unless Deer are kept in control eventually one would have to fence every field to protect crops even possibly pasture.

Are we really going to surround every scrap of grass and soil with such fencing?

Vocal i thought i was just writing?
As for looking silly thats not unusual for me!! But one things for sure i may be new but im defo not rude and discourteous like some!!!

Regarding the savanah theory comments - that's *******s. Foxes naturally have wolves a predators hunting with dogs mirrors that form of predation far more than shooting.

I wasn't saying that - where I live most of the fencing around the perimeter of properties is deer fencing and it would be simple to add electric fencing to it. Of course I am not suggesting every field everywhere should have it - that would be a nonsense. I didn't think anyone would even thing that...

There is a big push though now to get electric fencing banned (following the EC ban in wales) as it is inhumane to livestock and passersby.

Well that's the problem if deer numbers were not kept in check then because they have no predators any more they would continue to multiply until they exhaust their food supply. This would mean you would have to deer fence pretty much all crops as well as pasture. I would hate to see areas like exmoor covered in deer fencing.

To point to pet dogs and say because they don't hunt it isn't natural for dogs to hunt is a nonsense. As is saying that dogs have to be brutalised to get them to hunt

I think all cats should be killed cos they kill mice!!!!
Mice dont hurt any1 so why shud cats be allowed to kill poor innocent mice, its disgraceful!!!
Hold on isn't that Nature, the predatory system (something to do with darwin!)

LOL. Darwin was right with his theory of evolution (though widely borrowed from other less vocal, or well funded view of the time) but was waaaay off with his theory of natural selection. To the point of writing that someone later on would explain it properly...
