Any other Archers listeners who find listening to them talk about / do things with horses, painful to listen to? It’s pretty obvious none of the actors / script writers are vaguely horsey - when, for example, did you ever hear a vet say ‘there there’ to comfort a horse? Or a three day eventer get so angry that their [niece’s]horse was out at night in fireworks season, to the point that they went to the livery yard to berate the management? Or that said three day eventer would be excited at the prospect of a tour…of a livery yard? argh! I know, I know, I should let it go over my head but it ruins the whole thing for me!

I didn't realise he was an eventer, but I had to switch off when the guy seemed to be impressed by Alice's knowledge and competence - I mean, she's been hiding those pretty well from us, the humble listeners
And that's on top of the ridiculousness of a horse getting a serious abdominal injury, being operated on under GA at a 2 man rural practice and making a good recovery
I'm all for making a point about fireworks but felt that this did more harm than good by giving the impression that injured horses are easily mended

Listening to the Archers 'horsey' stuff is excruciating! I did mention this before on another thread, but I still haven't forgotten when one character is admiring another characters' riding, and says .....'you can tell what a good rider he is by the way he grips with his heels..'
I nearly threw my radio on the muck heap.
