I think one thing that the hearing at Oxford magistrates court proved was that public opinion counts.

The Animal Welfare Act ushers in a new era for us.

As equine 'nutcases' it is down to us to get together; join groups, show solidarity, speak out, etc., because there is no-one else. (non horse people have no idea how sentient equines are)

It has been a long time coming but now is the time to stand up and speak for our 'dumb' friends. History will prove whether we put our 'money where our mouth is' as a group.

The next decade will seal the fate of future generations.

We have shown over the Amersham case that we have what it takes to defeat the evil of those who do not show compassion for animals--especially an animal as historically important to Mankind as the Horse.

God Bless to all who made a fuss on this ocassion: we made a difference.

How do we spread the word to non nutcases just how sentient equines are? For me that is one of the issues in getting broader support, that and the perceived elitist nature of equestrianism, which I believe unfortunately, has a knock on effect on even wider public support.

I got 2 letters from the House of Commons today one from the MP of Amersham and one from my local MP, lovely letters about the Amersham Horses and how they are all working together with the RSPCA and the Police,i wil scan them later and post them in here

It was a good feeling on Monday and despite what some of the doubters on this forum say, I believe that justice will prevail. Even, God forbid JG is found not guilty (unimaginable) then we have at the very least opened the eyes of the public to what horses in this country suffer, lets hope that it makes people more vigilant and less intimindated by the JG types out there. Well done to everyone involved.

I think forming a group which states what we all agree about horses. That can respond to the media and seek publicity. (how do we do that--leaving egos in the safe)

This is new ground. The first time in history we are being faced with the public question of what horses are. Society must decide.

For millennia it was plain: they were beasts of burden to serve our needs. But now the relationship has changed. Do we continue to see them as dumb beasts that need the lash form time to time or do we go down the route of being closer to them, understanding them better, maybe seeing them as teachers and spiritual helpers; like extremely difficult to keep cats and dogs. (that you can sit on the back of and look royal)

I am being brief about this so the above sounds a bit odd. But I mean that there is no clear social identity of what a horse is.

Ask non horse people and they will say the horse is a mundane, dumb, insensitve beast with big teeth, owned by the wealthy brats with big teeth (suggesting cross-species breeding)

In reality they are exotic animals born in to Man's service owned by people who have all their brains and money sucked out by the evilness of the cunning equine. (to coerce the human to give up everything including sanity for the welfare of the horse)

I am getting bored of myself now. But what I am saying is, is we need to organise ourselves into a concerted voice and we need to put our heads together and decide what we all want for our furry coffeetable friends.

sermon over, time for medication

One thing for sure is that from the ashes of the dead horses of Spindle farm must come a rising phoenix of improved conditions for equines.

(I just thought of that)

There are already at least three independent groups already working together on this. As you know one of them is OE.

Other than the interest groups comprised of members of the public, there is the National Equine Welfare Council which is the umbrella group for all the registered charities involved.

I couldn't agree more - even solid veterinary evidence put before a judge on the 7th didn't seem to count for anything.

So what about the rspca? How come they need public outcry to win anything? Isn't their evidence good enough? Obviously was not good enough for the judge on the 7th of this month.

I am absolutely right behind you in standing up for our dumb friends - however, does it not accure to you that our dumb friends in this case may not need standing up for? Just like any of your animals don't need standing up for if you are taking care of them as you should be?

After the judges ruling on the 7th of this month the only thing the public have shown is that the rspca didn't have evidence to prove Mr Gray guilty of what they have accused him of, so therefore, they needed the public outcry (based on media tripe), manipulation tactics, etc....to get the outcome it has had.

Yes a FUSS - no evidence - just a total public fuss with no FACTS known of what you are even making a fuss about.

You say God bless; If you are a christian, before you go making even more of a fuss about a man who has not even been found guilty, you should brush up on your biblical knowledge.

Make up your mind - in another thread you said you hope he isn't found guilty.

You sdo nothing but come on here and cause upset and hurt, allow people to talk and if you dont like what people are saying, take a bit of your own advice and DONT REPLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

neal_w_uk that was very well written!!!!

I'm not sure you should be speaking for others; they have their own voice (or fingers, in this case

).

MJ doesn't bug me.

MJ has as much right as everyone else to say what she thinks.

MJ is allowing people to talk - it seems it's others who don't want her to talk.

MJ is just as entitled to reply to anything she wishes - just as YOU are doing now.

Freedom of speech - umm, not too sure about that one.

Not unless of course you are on the JG headhunting bandwagon.

Sorry, i haven't made myself very clear........If JG IS guilty then obviously that is the verdict I would hope for BUT as I mentioned on the other thread I do hope he isn't guilty for the horses sake

Well I, for one, find you refreshing.

Boring to me, is listening to loads of people churning out exactly the same thing even when they know no more about a situation than anyone else. Boring is reading posts which contain nothing but inane and childish comments.

Horses for courses eh? What is boring to one, isn't to another.
