What are your favourite beach rides around the Lincolnshire and/or Yorkshire coast?

Recently I went to Humberston/Cleethorpes beach (40 minute car journey away from where I live in North Lincolnshire). I made the most of it and had a good time, but it wasn't very horse friendly. There's a creek that runs along it, which can be extremely dangerous when the tide comes in, so I purposely went when the tide was heading out. It didn't make the easist of riding. Here's a link to some of my facebook photo's if you fancy a gander...

Years ago I went to Withernsea and that was really nice. I like Skegness as a riding beach, but that is an hour and half car journey away from where I am.

I just wondered if anyone knew of any decent, secret, beach havens? xx :)

There is a lovely one close to sutton on sea still a while from you but perfect for horses, large open free car park and then wide open beach which was empty in the summer. Just wonderful!

Thanks for that BWa. Just put it on google map and it is a similar travel time from where I am as Skegness is.

I'd like to go somewhere not a million miles away, with decent parking. Clear beaches, with easy access on and off all the way along it.

That was another thing with Cleethorpes - along certain stretches you're extremely limited in ways off the beach. So if the tide comes in, the creek brings the sea in around you.

I don't want much do I! ;) xx

Your pics are lovely Rudey - very jealous! I'm about as landlocked as you can get in the UK, and don't have access to a box, so no beach riding for me and the big fella anytime soon :(

I did once have a lovely gallop across a Caribbean beach many moons ago as a tourist.

Your piebald is stunning :)

Saltfleet just north of Mablethorpe may be worth a try. It's a whole since I've been but when the tide was out there was a lovely flat beach for a good gallop. A bit closer to you than Skeggy

Thank you very much tankgirl1. It was Rox's first time he had been on a beach, and with him only being broken for 4 months, I decided to put him on a line in the event he decided to 'express' himself before I sat on him!

Oh what a shame! Have you got any friends with transport? It's such a great experience on your own horse. I took my bay Sammi to Withenrsea and we went in just deep enough for him to swim with me on him - it was amazing! No chance I would be so brave to do that on Rox!

The Caribbean beach must have been amazing! Did you get any photo's? I would love to do that! xx

I am only 5 miles from Theddlethorpe and use the seal sanctuary car park when we go. In the winter it is always empty and the beach's are huge. Am thinking of going to Sutton on Sea next but not sure where to park?

Picture perfect Dirty-D! I have just compared it distance wise from my yard to Withernsea, and my yard to Fraisthorpe - and would you believe it there's only a mile and 4 minutes difference in it! Looks a lot further away judging by the map! xx

There's a bit of a carpark at Sutton-on-Sea behind some chalets if I remember rightly, the surfers use it. It's the only surf beach in lincolnshire! I was going to suggest that.
I have ridden on CLeethorpes beach with the Silver Shoe stables and they seemed to have horses down there all day. I can't recall the creeks ever being an issue.

I am in North Yorkshire and a regular beach rider, you have to time it VERY carefully tide-wise up here! And also weather-wise to avoid dogs and beach-goers.

Another for Fraisthorpe :D although it was 40years ago when we went there ! I do remember the fantastic expanse of beach that seemed to go on forever. We had some super gallops on near deserted sand. . .wonderful memories :D

Can't quote as I'm on my phone, but I can believe that distance difference between Withernsea and Fraisthorpe. I drive to Withernsea every day for work and it does feel a bit like the end of the world down here!

Ah cool as, thanks for the info about Sutton on Sea noblesteed

I imagine Silvershoe Stables know the beach/tides like the back of their hands. I once heard tales of riders and their horses getting caught out due to the creek/tide and unfortunately didn't make it. I've just googled it, and came up with this report on it, however there's no mention of the creek...

When I was going, I checked the tidal times, and I came across a piece warning about the creek. It's worth bearing in mind in case anyone ventures to Cleethorpes/Humberston beach. Here's the link...

Which beaches in North Yorkshire do you ride on? xx

Thank you very much Andiamo. I've got thousands of photo's of him on my facebook. I've had him since he was 9.5 months, so I like to keep a 'picture diary' of our achievements. I'm wanting to do ridden showing with him, so thought dressage would be a good introduction for him. I'm ruddy clueless when it comes to dressage mind - it's like the blind leading the blind ha ha haaaa! xx :D
