My first pony who i got when I was 13 and sadly lost when I was 40 and she was 29 was ridden all her life in an egbutt snaffle Back then the only bits you could get really were egbutts, loose ringed snaffles, the odd different pelhams and kimblewicks obviously there were others too. But now there are so many different types available. Well not just now but over the last few years. Ranging from Myler, Sprenger, KK, Aurigan. Sorry not very clued up on these sort so may have repeated myself. What I am asking is what of the "new" types out there are the best to start a young horse off riding in. Our horse is 3 now and has been bitted with a nlyon bit for in hand showing. But only having a very small gap for the bit (due to lack of formed teeth) we have been leading her a dressage snaffle which is very thin but she seems happier with this than the nylon one. I know this isn't ideal to ride her in to start with. Looking to back her at the back end of this year when she will be 3 and 3/4's. Want to keep it as mild as possible. What did others use in similar situations and what worked and what didnt'. I leave about 3 miles away from the Bit Shop so can try alternatives out on her. But really don't want to be swaping and changing unless I have to. Hope you understand where I am coming from???
