Not ideal as these are not a particular love of mine but i (will) have a young horse coming tomorrow **EXCITED!!** And she will be doing more growing so we have decided a synthetic for a few months and then into leather after xmas.

What the best brand/type of synthetic saddle out there? Ive only ever had one once for my boy when he was growing so im not a fountain of knowledge on them..

MUST have an interchangable gullet and she is built very much TB like with a high wither.

Thanks all.

I liked the thorowgood for a TB type :) my saddler said that he liked the thorowgood's the best really.
He didn't rate wintecs - but I know some people do (I had one on Ed and it was a good little saddle in its time)

I second the thorogoods

I got a gp thorogood with my horse and now that we're moving on a bit with our dressage, i've bought the dressage version as well. Had a leather one for a while but he's much happier in his cheaper synthetic :)

You're always going to get either Wintec or thorowgood. My personal preference are wintecs as I find thorowgoods to be too much between me and the horse. Also their wide saddles only started at 17" which is too big for me and pony .

The Wintec 500 is a pretty good saddle, £350 or so it isnt the cheapest but I've got 3 or 4 of them and have had them for several years and they really stand the test of time, the only repairs I've had is I had to replace the Girth straps on one of them, interchangable Gullets etc, and quite comfy.

| would always go for the wintec isabell which is lovely, the other wintecs I have sat in have been awful but have their uses for young horses that will change shape :)

Personally I prefer Thorowgood's over Wintec's they just feel better quality to me and I find they help put you in the correct position.

Though if I were you I would go for a cheap secondhand leather one if you can. You get used to synthetics but given the choice I would go for leather they are more comfortable and they tend to hold their price better than the synthetics.

Newer Thorowgoods.... not the old Maxam types... they were 'ard as nails on the bum so goodness knows how they felt on the horse! I don't like Wintec's Cair... it doesn't seem to be very flexible.... whenever I'm in a tack shop and I feel for panel softness, the Cair in Wintecs feels like a plank. But that's just MHO....

Heather Moffett has a synthetic treeless coming out in the new year. Saw it at YHL and it looks fab.

I've got the newer Thorowgood T6 and it's fab - great when you don't have to worry about if it gets wet etc and is non slippy - not like the older ones.

Thorowgood for me too! Had the T4 cob and it was great, let that go with the horse, then bought a T6 for my new mare and absolutely loved it! Comfy to ride in, fitted her well and I think they look smart too.
