I've got Rambos with vamoose for my 3 (a chunky IDx and two sports horses) and they've been a revelation in protection from flies. Mine don't have sweet itch, though.

ETA to add pics of the chunky one in her Rambo fly buster. It has good belly and bum coverage.

One of mine rubs his mane and its not really sweet itch but I bought him a shires bug rug and put it on in march and it stopped him rubbing, although last year i did start to use it but then it got so hot I didn't want to use it as he was sweating under it.

I did a bit of research and decided on a product by herd leader called Sr itch solution that you put in there feed, I wasn't convinced it would work but I left the rug off and he never rubbed his mane at all during all that heat.

So this year I'm going to just start the supplement early and see what happens, but I honestly think it did work so would recommend it's worth a try especially on a young horse that you might not want to put a rug on.

I use Shires highlander SI rugs. I replaced a broken one last spring with a Rambo SI hoody with vamoose which was pretty expensive but just wasn’t keen. The tummy bits didn’t meet so left his tummy exposed down the middle, he’s not overly fat and the Shires belly flap covers him without being tight. I also found the ears awkward. its stiffer fabric, probably lasts for ever but his ears were constantly out whereas the shires is stretchy and just fits nicer round the head.
I sold it and bought another Shires. I will be probably buying another this year and again it will be the Shires Highlander.
As a lighter rug in warmer weather but not as tough and not good enough for my very itchy old horse I have Premier Equine Superlites. They are great, but do rip fairly dramatically of you have a ripper!

I've used a few and i alternate between an Equilibrium for full coverage and a Horseware fly buster which have been fab. I also used a Shire highlander sweet itch combo which was good for horse flies

I really rate the Amigo Bug Buster with or without vamoose. However if midges are your issue you might be better off with one specific for sweet-itch as the mesh isn’t that fine.

Another user of the Rambo Fly Buster with Vamoose. My horse is a 16hh, quite solid Arabian. It's kept its' fly-repellant capacities for many years. It's never been washed, though. He has four full-face face masks which are rotated regularly. These are necessary as he has a pink nose, which burns horribly if not fully covered.

I like the maxima ones though they are a bit thicker than they used too, I def see the zebra horses swish their tails a lot less than the other ones. I HATE the buccas zebra one looked more like cow pattern than zebra, so many straps on it got rid of it quick

I think you need more than one option to cover different weather conditions. I use a Premier Equine SI rug in spring when it's cooler and you need good coverage. As the weather warms up I use the Shires rug and I only use the Rambos when it gets very hot as they tend to keep my pony cooler. I've also got a Derby House rug which is good when it's warm but it's not that well made and I don't think it will last that long. I've had the vamoose Rambos but I can't say they were any better than the non treated rugs. I bought one of their vamoose treated fly masks one year - the pony got it off and I found it in the field - covered in flies.
