Well already the flies have started biting again, I didn't expect them to come around this early!!

Sandy really suffers with the flies, last year I had a nightmare with him. He goes out in a full fly rug with an equilibrium full face fly mask as well as various fly repellent products. Sadly even with all of this he can still only go out for a few hours before he get's bitten and ends up pacing around the field and getting all stressed and sweaty. The worst place for him is round his sheath, here is a link to how bad it got last year:

So basically in preparation for this year I want to know, what is the best of the best for repelling flies.
Rugs, sprays, gels- I want to know everything!!

I used Tritec 14 last year. Horse out in a river field,so loads of midges, and he was the only one who didn't seem to get bothered by flies/midges/etc. Its brilliant stuff

I got the Rambo sweet itch hoody last year and it is the best yet (and we have been through a lot of products and rugs! ) for me covering up is the only way to tackle sweet itch.

Auslander, that's really good to hear- I might give that a go!

Sandy is turned out right next to a brook so his paddock get's swarming with flies :o

MetalMare I have actually tried that fly spray before, sadly it didn't seem to work on my boy :(

Funnily enough I was considering buying a sweet itch rug instead of a fly rug, would you recommend them then? :D

I descovered Deosect last year and love the stuff. It's potent so you have to be careful on you but one bucket did 4 horses with loads spare and once sponged on it lasts a month :D
