The best grip: Reins, glove combo?

Riding in the rain today in my rubber (bobble) reins and leather gloves was a complete nightmare! The reins just kept sliding though my fingers, even when I was gripping as hard as possible. So I rode like a complete and utter numpty today, my poor cob. I just can't have this at my HT on the weekend.

So can anyone tell me the best reins and gloves to give the most grip when it is really tipping it down? Link/pictures would be fab too.

I love my normal rubber reins with woofwear elite gloves (and the junior larges fit perfect so no vat!)

Ive got Roekl gloves and Barnsby reins.

I don't know what make my reins are (might be Heritage) but they are the dressage style half-rubber ones. i wear Roeckl Chester gloves, and the reins don't slip even in dire weather.

I use Roekl XC gloves and continental reins as cannot stand rubber ones. I find I get good grip as my reins dont shoot thru my fingers.

if its for XC in particular then the half rubber ones are not legal under BE rules - due to the stitching. They are legal for dressage and showing.

I use Roeckl Chester Gloves which are about £25 and Cottage Craft Suregrip Reins which are about £20.

And, the gloves are warm enough to hunt in, and yet they don't make me too hot when I'm eventing in July!

Well I never. I have never seen that in the rules!

Another vote for Roeckl Chester gloves. I swear by them and won't buy anything else.

Well plenty of pros use them!!!! For dressage and for a 2nd rein if using 2, and know some people that use them as normal reins.

To OP, Macwets and normal rubber reins, personal preference Stubben ones as not too bulky. Macwets and smooth rubber in wet DO NOT work though.

that's what I thought. All I've ever seen in the rules is about not having anything between reins and bit (except roundings) and only putting the snaffle rein of a double through a running martingale.

Amen to that! Although macwets and biogrips seem to work quite well.

Well I was advised that the reins with the rubber insert and not to be used for XC but a very good source - so id rather be safe than sorry.
