Last year I did all horse chores in a rather awful Jewsons (yep those builders merchants) bright blue shapeless coat, because it was warm, waterproof and big enough to have 3 jumpers underneath it.

I have now put it in the bin - it was embarrassingly awful - and am looking to buy something relatively smart but robust enough to do the horses and warm enough to take the winters we have been getting.

I like to think I am reasonably well dressed, so

Suggestions pleeeeese ...........

The last three or so winters I have been wearing my Horseware 'Julia Lacha' down jacket - it is fantastically warm and amazingly hardwearing. I dry clean it once a year and it still looks like new! It is down filled, fleece lined, waterprooof and has zip-off sleeves so it turns into a gilet. It look very smart too. Honestly, it's my best friend from autumn onwards.

I don't know what size you are but Hope Valley Saddlery have them half price in x-small. Here's a linky, you just need to scroll down to see it. It's the 3rd one down.

Otherwise, a quick google will bring up other stockists.

I also use a fleece, one of those really thick ones and keeps me so warm, was only a cheapy too from matalan! Coat wise, I always stick to Barbour, they're well worth the money!

I have a really nice Harry Hall that I have had for at least three years, and it has survived all the really awful winters recently. Many people at my yard wear those blouson type jackets, and one day there was a torrential downpour and everyone was complaining about thier coats having gone through in the rain, but the Harry Hall jacket hadn't and never has! Its also really stylish and soooooo warm! I hope I have been helpful! :)

I'm also looking for a good coat. I was thinking of going for a ski coat. Probably much cheaper than a horsey brand

TK Maxx!!! Me and all of my liveries went there on mass last year and bought skiing coats and sallopettes - all were reasonably priced and kept us so warm and dry!!

Thanks everyone, off to do some internet research .... I just thought that I buy the horses the best rugs I can and love to choose good styles, so why or why for once shouldn't I spend the same money on a great rug for me!!!
