MD has been off school poorly for a couple of days but for some reason, thought she would be fine to jump the Baggage in the school? Eh?
She had made a little course the previous day & despite looking like death warmed up, was determined to try it out!
I asked her several times if she wouldn't be better off leaving it for another day but she was adamant!
I hoped the Baggage would not play her up too much, as MD looked as though she might topple out of the saddle if you so much as prodded her with an index finger!

The Baggage............went round every single jump & then did two courses at the steadiest pace I have ever seen her go at, though with pricked ears & a keen expression!
She even went out of her way to jump one jump MD had somewhat fluffed the approach to, though we would all have forgiven her for refusing or running out but she straightened herself up & went straight for it!

She was a complete & total star & couldn't have been more generous & accommodating if she'd tried! I've never seen her so gentle, ever!
When MD took her out to the field, BB watched her walk back up the drive & only when MD was out of sight, did she turn away & stomp off!

It's official - I adore her completely!

I think she could be the 'ideal pony' actually, I can't believe our luck!
(Maybe LBO has been whispering to her in the field! lol)

She wasn't unhappy or worried tonight, just being unbelievably gentle & careful, so the only possible explanation is that she was 'taking care of MD'?

It is my final proof that she is 'happy' with us, as you don't look after someone you don't give a stuff about, do you?

The Baggage does seem awfully happy PF, not sure why, we haven't done anything 'magical' with her! lol!

MD is a funny kid though, she adored CB (a git!), worships BB (c*wbag!) but although she won a fair amount of rosettes with the Fat Orange One (total little cherub!), she never really 'clicked' with him & actually admitted one day, that although she admired him & was grateful to him for helping her through her first few shows, she didn't actually like him that much!?!

She worships the ground BB walks on however, so maybe that's all there is to it? Yet she's as tough as hell on her!
They went out hacking the other night & BB got halfway up the drive & started messing about somewhat, trying to turn round & backing into the hedge!
There was no kicking, arguing, anything, MD never said a single word.........just stick, instantly, once, smack! BB went!

It truly was an 'awww' moment!

Is one of the reasons I could never bear to be without a pony, as I'm not sure horses can be like this, or can they?
Maybe I'm judging them unfairly on what I see on the yard, as most of the horses & their owners could almost be total strangers, they don't seem to have any relationship with each other at all!

sounds like they've bonded well and truly then

I think it depends on the horse and owner as to whether they bond or not as there are horses at our place who really haven't bonded with their owner - perhaps because they don't spend any 'quality' time with them? Both Pidge and Sunny have cracking personalities (as you know

) and I think they have bonded with us now and its great when they do things the BB has done with MD as it proves that they do bond with us.
For instance when Pidge was on box rest I was walking him in hand on the end of the lead rope and he went to race off as the sprinkler was going in the garden, I just carried on walking and told him it was fine and he instantly relaxed and carried on walking next to me.

JAK, I have to say that reading these stories about BB has really put a huge smile on my face. I am so glad that after all the crap you've had to deal with there is light, in the shapely form of the Black Baggage, at the end of the tunnel.
The two of them together are making up into such a wonderful partnership......something that perhaps they've both been looking for.

So keep the stories coming....and more piccies please

Ahhhhh, JAK she sounds like a total star and it sounds like MD and BB have the beginnings of a great bond. I agree with the above though, want to see more piccies!

Sounds like a good relationship - don't suppose you want to lend MD to me - Chancer is ready for his small hacks and he was very good on his first one.

Actually she might find him too good - he does not buck, rear or tank off (yet) but he does like to run after you and play chase.

The young teen I have been using adores him and says he is really sweet to ride but she is going to be busy with her own young horse for the next few weeks.

Mummy dumpling does ride him for 10 mins once a week but I am normally on Cairo when we hack out as I am more used to handling him than my captured teen.

Aww, thats so cute!

Reminds me of my fairly sharp 14.2. I'd been up one night throwing up (i was about 14/15) right before a show, and my parents had promised the ride in the Novice WHP to a boy on my yard because he needed the experience.. so I dragged myself to the show to help him out, and took her in a couple of SJ classes (still being sick) she carried me round, like death on her back and we won a couple..Normally she took some riding as she was the type to try it on if she thought she'd get away with it..

I will put some pics up in the gallery then, today hopefully & some on the blog!

HayleyUK - you have described the Baggage exactly! To say I was gobsmacked would be an understatement, BB could so easily have turned it into a disaster but she chose to do otherwise!

It's funny what you can fall in love with, BB is pretty but about as 'ordinary' as they come, nothing special at all & she can be a total witch but I wouldn't want to be without her now & I'd have to think long & hard before I swapped her for something else! lol
(Maybe just a case of 'better the devil you know....'!)
