Well the Boett has lasted my 3yo for a year or so but now it is a little small plus has been mended once too often and is now once again covered in small holes and is a bit torn in his most scratchy areas. I don't want another Brett because the poor lad hates having it put on and taken off no matter how much work I do with him. I am looking for a rug that has neck fastenings rather than one that has to be pulled over his head.

Recommendations please :)
Has anyone tried the masta si rug? How easy is it to get on and off?

My mare has the Rambo SI Hoody and I use Neem Oil on the bits which aren't covered, every other day or so. Much harder wearing than the Boett and easier to put on!

+1 for the Rambo SI hoody. My gelding attempted to shred a fly sheet after 2 days, so I asked around and was told that the hoody is the best thing if they scratch. It's really durable, and I haven't had any problems with him being too warm in it.

I use another brand thats just like the rambo si hoodie, haven't had to apply lotions since using it. It was much cheaper than the rambo one but doesn't quite stand up to as much rubbing. Still, our first one lasted us 3 years and has withstood quite a bit of tail scratching.

Snuggy hoods have really helped my boy live a more normal life. I like them as they are sort of like a second skin so I don't feel as bad as he has to live in it. It withstands alot of games of 'I'm a stallion' and grooming sessions.

They do have the options of having zips so you don't have to pull over the head if this is what yours objects to :)

I bought the equitheme rug, priced at around £70. It has protected my TB who was getting bitten through his other two fly rugs. It is very similar to the boett.

ETA I just noticed you want one you don't have to pull on and off over his head so the equitheme rug would be no good. Sorry.

IF you can find one: the Pessoa Sweet Itch Hoody is fantastic - mine lasted my boy for years and years, now sadly no longer mendable. But they're like hens teeth to get hold of.

There is a cheaper "version" of the Boett called the Pagony. Some here will swear by it but the one I bought was rubbish quality; the stitching came undone very quickly as it was done with a single thread not reinforced or even double. Awful!! and a total waste of money IMO. They also have to be put on over the head so not what you're looking for.

Performance Equestrian do some nice hoody sweet-itch rugs; whilst perhaps not being in the same league as the Rambo hoody they're very serviceable all the same and the one I had lasted well and still lives to tell the tale!

But IMO you can't do better than the Rambo sweet itch hoody. Pricey but unsurpassed.

My boett I'd dead as well :(
Rambo hoody all the way.

Same. Had the Boett a couple of years, a great rug but agree with putting in on and off, too much. I even had a zip put in to try and make it less uncomfortable but not paying to have all that done again, the rug is expensive enough in the first place.

I have gone for the Rambo, its been fine. Pony is very comfortable in it, fits well, washed it first time at weekend and its come out lovely, and best of all, it comes off in a couple of minutes. I put midge spray round his back legs in the evenings and he's not rubbed at all.

Think it will have to be the rambo sweet itch hoody then as it seems most people are happy with it.

They may be pricey but they are around half the price of the boett that is now in the bin & if they protect my boy then it is money well spent

It's the lower half of his neck and his tail that gets the worst of it so as long as these bits are covered I think that should be ok. Wonder if a fieldsafe headcollar would keep the ears on if he needed his poll covered?

I also rate the rambo, very tough rug for my rug wrecker and covers well, I have to alter the neck as it was too long even with his head down and it ended up down over his face one day!! This was probably because I had to go up a size to fit his chunkyness. I did a couple of darts in the neck and it has been fine since. It has a great tail flap and good belly coverage.

Another vote for the rambo, I still don't like the fit very much but it's the strongest one I've used. Can take a good battering!

whatway did you buy your neem oil, do you have to warm it in warm water to soften and do you apply neat to all face and other area not covered?

I had a snuggy hood and it only lasted 2 weeks then i went down to find a pile of rags in the field rambo one is good and we are into our second year with that have just got the shires one aswell and it is very lightweight and waterproof all is good so far

Another vote for Rambo SI hoody never put her ears into it and there is enough material so when she puts her head down to eat her neckis still covered. I also feed Brewers yeast all year round and increase it in the summer months.

Another vote for a RAmbo SI Hoodie. mine has survived being chewed and pulled and mauled by the 2 yr old .very little damage done.

What is the fitting of the Rambo like? Do they come up big? My boy measured up ad
6' 1 but he is only 3 so the 6' 3 will be ok or will it come up too big?

I'd go for the 6'3, my mare normally takes a 6 but I had to go bigger with the rambo hoodie.
