The breed you wanted as a child?

I never was without a dog, we always had dozens at home

When I was a kid I wanted a border collie, thank god my mum put her foot down and said no way, but then when I decided I wanted a whippet she said OK straight away so I got one

I wasn't fussy as I just really wanted a dog for years. I guess a labrador actually

At 16 I finally got my little Beastie dog. Who is a schnauzer

I now have joint ownership of two labs though

When I was really little, I wanted a golden retriever. Then for most of my childhood I wanted a German Shepherd. The first dog we had that I remember (we had one when I was tiny, a cocker spaniel, but I don't really remember him) was a geriatric, grumpy Jack Russel! He was a freebie from a rescue centre because he was so old and he was having a really hard time in kennels. Our "free" dog ended up costing thousands of pounds in vets' bills and medication, but the few years we had with him were worth it.

My sister adored him - that's why she got Poppy - and now we've found out that Chaz was not a typical JRT. Now we have a typical JRT, I don't think we'll ever get another one!

I think I was quite happy with the GSD's and my Lancashire Heeler when I was young, and I suppose I was spoilt growing up with loads of dogs.

Nowadays, I have a list of breeds so long I'm not sure how I'm going to fit them all in a house. I know I want a GSD, maybe a long coat boy because I still remember the one we bred when I was little that I called PomPom. Plus I want a dog to go round in the car when I'm vetting, and I'm not sure people would be as keen on me turning up with a GSD bouncing round my car as they would a terrier....., plus the GSD might not leave me much room for actual vet equipment in the boot.

You also called a pup Snowy, and it wasn't white! I also thought I had brought you up better than to call them boys, fgs girl they are dogs, or males

Boxer. My uncle had a succession of them--all living into their teens--but my parents worked full-time so we weren't allowed a dog.

Before Stella I wanted an ex-track greyhound. Hubs thinks they look like me too much (my nickname is the Saluki

) so we went for a Boston.

I went through different phases! I wanted an Old English sheepdog after seeing the Digby film, then I wanted a rough collie because I saw Lassie.
I then was desperate for a GSD (partly because my sister threatened to leave home if we had one!!!)
When I was about 12 we had a golden retriever and I have had labs, collies and a GSD since!
But in 2 weeks I am getting my first Springer!

Always wanted a Siberian, a lady used to come and pick up her daughter from the same middle school with two beautiful grey and white bitches
I waited 12 years till I had my own home and now i`m living the dream with two of them
smile.gif
have to say though I have since learnt my dream dog is a different breed (Alaskan Malamutes) but I will always love the Siberian

Gosh, I had a list

I wanted a dog soooo badly throughout my childhood that I used to cry about it on a regular basis

I suppose the one that most springs to mind is a golden retriever. There was one (called Bruce

) that I would play with at our tennis club for hours

(I guess I have him to thank for making it as tennis captain at school

I always wanted a Borzoi too.

I grew up with an alsatian called Queenie who was great but after reading a book about a borzoi called Karmenka I had to have one.

I've got 2 border collies now so something didn't quite go to plan!
