I am now a proud member of the 'I've been to Burgie Club' and I can recommend it to anyone. Off we set before sparrow's fart o'clock last Thursday, myself, OH, Mini-Joss (9 months), the M-I-L (Mother in law) plus Echo to do the CCI* & Boris to do an Arena Event & BE100. At mid-day we drew in to the very welcome sight of Supergroom/Nanny/Media Manager Figjam waiting for us at the gate.
Were delighted to find ourselves in enormous permenant indoor stables, each roughly the size of a small indoor school. Moving in was accomplished & OH with Figjam as his minder was dispatched to the briefing. We then sent Echo off out for a little bit of pre-horse inspection exercise & they came back somewhat damp. Did our bestest to make soggy horse look like smart horse:

Passed inspection no probs - phew.
Friday was dressage day. Echo did a bit of early morning exercise in the hope of keeping as chilled out as possible whilst Boris had his 1st little foray to the main ring. We just did the BE90 arena event so we could get done 1st thing & not clash with the important one's dressage. Boris thought the whole thing was great fun & piled over the fairly small jumps with gay abandon. The Xc was all knockable but had some fun things like a corner, some narrows & a brush into an L shaped avenue of trees. Caught on camera to see him towing me round:

We ended up 6th so at least one frilly to bring home
Echo's dressage soon followed and wasnt too bad. Behaved himself for a change this season but a couple of mistakes soon bring the mark down but ended up on 60 which didnt leave them too far off the pace
Hurrah its finished:
The afternoon was spent doing back to back course walks which in my case involved once only & cutting a few corners whilst pushing the pram. The 2nd course walk was with A's 'Pro' partner & the measuring wheel to find the minuite markers.
The XC was very fair & nothing too horrendous but I do think that the experience of an Intermediate or 2 pre one star is a good idea. I think we may have had a few heart palpatations going to that directly from Novice. Even the 1st couple of fences are a good bit bigger & wider than anything you would find on a Novice track. The main worries were no 13a a very skinny log with brush behind with a curved related distance to another narrowish log as part B. Fence 14 was then a sizeable brush corner (as mentioned in CIC* reports!) but the fence that was catching them was a drop into dark woods with a curved couple of strides to a large water ditch then 2 strides over a narrow brush 'hedgehog', this was 16abc
Echo set off like a man on a mission: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVeTCPOR7M
He was superbly clear through 13ab & 14 but sadly was just going too strongly (A was told to attack it!!) when he got to 16 & piled in over the drop found himself facing a tree instead of the ditch & although they tried their best & leapt the ditch it was the wrong side of the flag & 20 blooming penalties. Flew through clear after a quick circle & finished strongly with just 6 time penalties.

I think most others put another stride in the water!!
One very happy horse finished with a very disappointed rider.
All cheered up with a few wines/beers on saturday night & Echo was fit as a flea for early o'clock trot up. He then show jumped as if he had done nothing much the day before, really unlucky to have 1 down as they both got a little too keen down the final line: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmkm36P3RKo
Waiting to jump:
First ever 3 Day completed & loads of good experience gained. We all loved the event, everything ran absolutely to time but with a lovely relaxed feel & none of the million rules & security that you get at other 3DEs.
HUGE thanks to Figjam, nevermind supergroom she is superwoman who can carry bales of haylage around on her shoulder. If Burgie 2012 makes it you will see us there again

Oh did I say I was doing the BE100? Yeah well forget about that I think Boris had left his jumping socks in the arena on the Friday or had 1 too many at the party on sat night he wasnt in the mood at all.... hey ho...thats horses
