While not the world's biggest fan of lurid colours, I have been forced to concede, after hunting about for a black fly fringe, that fly masks and fringes left on in the field shouldn't be dark, muted tones.
I did find it in the end, but have now resolved to overrule my sense of taste next time and buy one in the most violent shade of pink/blue/orange/other non-hedgerow colour that I can find ?.

My horse had pink and orange OR boots for that very reason!

Also, human bright colours too.
Easier to spot in long grass, dreary days etc if they have had a mishap.
Likewise dog walkers and cyclists off road, far easier to spot when riding...
OH despairs at my tasteless walking/cycling /riding wardrobe in all its lurid non-matchy neon glory. I WILL be seen! He's slowly coming round and no longer cycles in all black ?

Always wondered why fly masks are primarily black. Seems hot and like it would attract flies.

There are a lot more colors available now though. I have some colorful ones by Shires and a Cashel (although it's now dead). Krämer have a nice assortment too.

When a black one is lost I feel like I'm always scouring the field squinting wondering if that's a pile o' poo in the distance or a discarded fly mask.

This is why it was not a good idea to use a green hoof pick in the field the other day (mislaid it within 5 seconds)
