The case of the imaginary fly..... or is it?

Hope you get to the bottom of this OP - the biting insect sounds the most likely but 1 other thought is I have heard of horses acting like this If they have a bean in their sheath so it wouldn't hurt to check for this (though preferably not in front of the man in the car!). Have to add though I would have to get the vet out i am pathetic at dealing with it myself!
