The cheek of it!

Now my friend (E) who rides Holly for me (when she can) came down yesterday, she beat me to the yard, walked into the tack room and was told by one of our liveries 'i think its best you don't ride Holly today, she's already been ridden twice'.

Now what she mean when she said 'she's already been ridden twice' is that Holly has been plodding around the arena with two beginners on her for 30mins or so, so not doing any real work.

E rode Holly anyway as tbh Holly is a little on the tubby side and could do with more exercise to lose the weight!

However i still cannot get over our livery telling E she couldn't ride Holly the damn cheek of it. Holly does not belong to her, Holly belongs to us and we decide who can ride and who can't and when! I haven't seen said livery since and am pondering whether to say anything to her? What do you think?

If it was me I would have to say something quite honestly. Did you already know that Holly would havr been ridden twice beforehand? If you did then as you were obviously happy for her to be ridden again then as long as the pony was physically up to it, why not?

id just say to the livery politely that it was non of her business and not to give orders to your friend whos riding for YOU!

I don't see a problem with her being informed how much work your horse had done, but I think it's out of order to tell her she shouldn't ride. I'd have to say something, personally

If you work on the basis that she was telling you to inform you that Holly had already been out then thats good, because its useful for you to know how much work she has done.

As for saying she thought she shouldnt be ridden again - well, thats horse people for you - they always have an opinion (especially about other peoples horses)

Wouldnt let it bother me personally.

Holly is perfectly capable with being ridden twice, she is pretty fit really, i mean E did 30-40mins of trot and canter work on her and Holly did not even break into a sweat and she's only chaser clipped!

I do think its a bit much for her to say that to E and i think she would not have said it if i'd been there too.

Said livery wanted to buy Holly at one point, we said she is not for sale, she also wanted to put Holly in her field, we said no she is foster mum to the babies at the moment thanks.

What shall i say though?

Won't see her until Weds maybe not till the weekend depending on how late her and her OH are there during the week.

Lol i'm not so sure about that, these are the same liveries that used to leave all their horses cr@p all over the yard and expect ME to clear up after them.

I agree you should have a word with the livery about it, my pony is worked by a few different riders at the moment and if any of them started trying to dictate when and by whom he should or shouldnt be ridden then id sort it out asap!

I think your also probably right about the fact that if you had been on the yard then the comment wouldnt have be made, if its anything my like yard then people always have opinions about other peoples horses but these are rarely voiced when the owner of the horse in question is around!

No i doubt she would have said anything if i was there, and i know B wasn't within hearing distance, if he had been i suspect she wouldn't have said it either.

Am just annoyed because she has no right to say anything like that to E!
