Not only have I tamed the chickens that now follow me around for scraps of horse feed but the blooming mice have cottoned on as well, they have even got the audacity to rob me blind of my horse food in broad day light!

One casually strolled away from the feed area this morning and looked over it’s shoulder at me in disgust because I’d disturbed his breakfast feast, then another came to join me, tootled across my boxes without a care in the world and came and sat down in front of me, busy watching me while I’m preparing my horses feed, even started nibbling some bits ramming it's cheeks like a hamster, so I gently stroked it (with my scoop, didn't fancy having a wild mouse hanging off my finger end if it decided to bite me) and I said hello (yes I’m now talking to the god dam mice as well as the chickens!) :o and it popped onto my scoop and started cleaning it’s paws.

I kinda felt sorry for it and it was rather cute :o

makes mental note *must not feed the mice*

I’m losing it, just shoot me now.

Hahaha! A good cat should sort them right out ;)

Watch out for the hens though - ours have turned into guard hens and have started chasing cars. They also terrify the dog but given that the dog is a bit speshul and is scared of his own sneezes that's not too difficult

Yep, just don't get one like ours. Saw an obviously poisoned rat stumbling across the yard the other week, cat walks up, says hello and walks off! Now, I know the cat is sensible to not eat the rat, but he could have at least finished it off as we only put the poison down cos he wasn't doing his ruddy job in the first place. Had to get my dad to dispatch it in the end :o

Haha! Obviously from the same catlines as the moggy at my previous yard... Princess Priscilla the Useless Yard Kitten. She had to spend three days in a basket once cos she ventured outside and got her paws wet. She then sat and preened herself as a bird mockingly danced around literally a foot away from her. The only thing she ever 'hunted' was my 17+hh ginger knobber horse, who was terrified of her :D

I'd have caved it's head in with the feed scoop. One less to breed and cause havoc.

Oh nooooo I couldn’t do that, we do have humane traps down though.

My friend can quite easily stamp on a bag and kill one if she catches it, I couldn't do that either, too soft.

Thing is we don’t have a yard cat, strange that, I wonder why, anyway we did used to have a terrier that was always ratting and mousing but she passed away with old age a while ago now.

Oh this cat is pure evil, chases off my friends lurcher cross - she is terrified of him! And he scratched me the other day when I took his feed bowl away for washing, got fed late that day I can tell you, the little ****e!

It gets bad when you name them, and then find them dead in the water bucket, so sad. Poor little Dave.......... RIP little fella. :(

You sound as bad as my husband, he wanted a full funeral for "Sid the Seven Legged Spider". Sid lived on the window frame of his studio for ages before his sad demise.......

pmsl good job it wasn't mickey:eek:
i have no problem with bashing them with the feed scoop................as long as they haven't looked me in the eye:o if they get one of them 'ooohhhh noooo i'm only a little mousey' looks in before i can bash them then i'm scuppered and they live another day, must be getting soft :o

We got two 8 mth old feral cats from the cats protection league. We were warned they might never become tame but within a few weeks(of doing nothing, just shut them in feedrm(with food, water&bed)pretty much ignoring them,as per instructions('they'll seek you out when they're ready') they trusted these horsey-people-constantly-coming&going & now every visitor to the yard(vets incl) says what lovely, healthy, happy, friendly cats they are:) Oh,and never seen a live mouse on the yard since we got them(only mouse gall bladders, left as a delightful morning gift outside the feedrm, ready for the unsuspecting to slip on...;)

And they've never been ill or needed the vet(more than can be said for the horses!),get on with everyone's dogs and are always up for a lovely cuddle:)
