Re previous post, dog arrived today and he and mine are getting to know each other. My dog being quite protective and doing a lot of growling but the Clumber not rising to the fray, hope this will resolve itself. Clumber has decided to attach himself to me unfortunately, He has hardly any teeth in the front of his mouth at the bottom, they have been worn down to tiny nubs ! He is only a young dog so don't know what has caused this. He also is quite scabby and itchy, hope its not an allergy asd been there done that with my Setter and its a bit soul destroying. so been flea treated and hope its no more than that, and not mites, have enough trouble with horse with mites. He has not as yet (fingers tightly crossed) wee,d indoors. Seems a lovely character, walks beautifully on a lead. Hope its going to work out.

Hes been fed a raw diet, raw chicken wings ? Is this safe, what about the bones?
 
He's very lucky I hope he settles in well.
On raw my friend has a pup that been weaned on raw it's about a year now and was ill long story it nearly died but eventually the problem was diagnosed as salmonella .
Recovering now but it's was a close run thing .
The dog is now a specialist kibble and looking much happier .
Needless to say that's the end if their raw experiment .
 
Congrats on your new boy,it doesn't sound a disastrous start .Hopefully your old dog will accept him in a couple of weeks,with lots of good walks in the meantime.
bravecto worked well for us last year when both mine got harvest mites..
I'd suggest he gets a good bath asap in something like chlorexyderm shampoo which is a good antibacterial and should get the scabs sorted.
 
I am so glad for him. I wonder if he wore his teeth down chewing in the kennel?

when i got my dog (from internet :( ) he was bald and itchy and scabby all down his back/tail/thighs.
i just had to have him.

day 1 we went to vets and they were able to skin scrape him and told me it was not mites or fleas but probably diet or stress.
he had been fed on bakers :( i changed him over to skinners d+r from day 1 (not gradual) and his coat seemed to start coming back within a week.

he is all shiney and happy now :) x

He is making himself bleed scratching, wonder if its eczema . Will have to book him into Vets, oh joy, another one with problems,already got the pancreatic dog ! I don't expect it will help him being indoors either as he's used to living out.
 
Get him on a bath with sulphur shampoo. You can also get sulphur drops, helped my sensitive boy lots. Pat shampoo is also good. Wash all bedding in non biological.

Raw diets are usually fine, my three are raw fed, so are my mate's five, no issues with bones. Chicken wings are fine, it's only cooked bones that are dangerous.

If you don't fancy the whole raw thing, you can get packets you just defrost and pour in the bowl at Pets at Home. To do raw properly, you need to research. Read the raw thread in the stickies. I will help if you're not sure about something.

Re the itching, he may be allergic to his diet! Chicken and pork are the top two culprits so maybe feed only other protein for a week and see how he goes. It won't harm him to eat only one type of meat for a week or so.

I love Clumbers - I also insist that we have pictures :D :D A raw diet is the best possible option for a dog, and uncooked bones in chicken wings etc pose no threat to a dog- it is when the bones are cooked that they are dangerous.
 
I will try and get some pics will have to borrow a camera. He is scratching for England and making himself bleed in numerous places, poor lad, how could he be allowed to get into this state. I think he is too hot indoors as well, but now he has had the taste of being indoors he doesn't seem to want to stay out,even though I have bought him a special deluxe shed !
 
Is he very hairy/have a full coat? If he has been kennelled he may be finding indoor a bit hot which won't be helping his itching. You can thin his coat yourself using a 'coat king, 20 grade/teeth' this gets a much better result than clipping and won't cause irritation like stripping can.

Oh don't know how I did that then ! shows how un techy I am. Cant remember last time I uploaded a photo ! Anyway this is Rufus! He has been a very good boy since he arrived, if I can sort out the scabby itchy body (his not mine) I will be well chuffed

We think he is about 3. I wonder if he has been gnawing on the wire in the run. He sometimes yelps for no apparent reason too.
I hope the vet isn't going to find anything horrible when we visit, Im not relishing another dog that's always in the vets for something expensive. Havent seen any paperwork but he looks like a full Clumber, hes from working stock not show. He so wants someone to love him and cuddle him though
 
Maybe grain free food would help the skin issue. If he keeps scratching, I'd go for a skin scrape, especially with another dog, just to eliminate mange.
 
He is gorgeous :) he looks quite light for a Clumber but if he is a working strain I guess that would explain it - good luck with his itchiness! The only experiences I have with itchy spaniels was when their diet was too high in protein for the work they were doing, but
I'm sure your vet will advise 😊
 
Managed to get a vet appointment this afternoon. Dog has been scratching all night. I was wondering if using Aromaheel would help get rid of the scabs, worked on my horses mud fever, so surely couldn't hurt could it ? We think he was just fed on dry kibble with the owner, fosterer changed him to raw diet been on that for about 10 days, I will try and keep that up,
