I've got 2 horses, well one very particular pony and one yearling.

I had them on haylage during the very bad weather we had but due to spending an absolute fortune on it, I've stuck them back on hay much to my pony's disgust. It's fantastic quality hay but apparently he'd rather eat his bedding. Brat. Yearling drags the majority of his in to his bed as well so a lot of it gets wasted so depsite it being cheaper, I waste much more.

Ideally, I'd have a big bale but I just won't get through it quick enough? I have a friend moving her youngster to the yard so we might get through it with 3 but I'm not sure.

In the meantime though, what's the best option for me? I'd like them to be on haylage, I've tried mixing it but he just sieves through it and leave the hay - ha!

The small bags seem so costly in comparison with a big bale.

Hi I have been buying big square bale haylage and because its fairly dry and very tightly wrapped its lasting almost a month easy at the moment. I jus cut a flap at one end and because it was wrapped very well, the air only reaches the flaps one flap at a time
