the day has come

i finally say my last goodbyes to my grandad today.

Just getting ready for the funeral and im dreading it.
I went to see him in the chapel of rest on friday so ive said some personal goodbyes but today just makes it so final...

i really didnt think i could miss any body this much.

Bless you hun, that picture brought tears to my eyes. You obviously had a very strong bond.

You WILL get through today. Just remember it is a celebration of his life and remember all the good times you had.

I never knew either of my granddads and only had one gran till i was 3 and the other till i was 6 but i did have my great uncle who then took over as both sets of grandparents. He died at Xmas (this year) - he was nearly 93 and i still get upset now. I'm nearly crying typing this so i sympathise soo much with how your feeling. If you wanna chat at anytime pm me.

hi guys

just back and it was strangely ok.
i did cry at the start and at the point where the curtains close but after that i was ok - it hurt but i wasnt crying as such.

it was nice to have all his royal naval people march into his funeral and salute to the coffin as it drove in..

then after the service one of his school friends came over - we had no idea he was there - he had read it in the funeral part of the local paper.
he gave us a picture of himself and my grandad at school aged about 7 which was lovely.

then we went onto the royal navy club where it was nice to speak to some of his friends and hear how well regarded my grandad was.

in all it was a very nice service - im sure it will hit me later but thanks to those who replied.

i now just have the cremation service on wednesday to get through .
