I had a flatwork lesson for the first time since the end of April and omg, I was knackered by the end of it.
I can't believe how many bad habits I've picked up over the years :(

- My hands are too close to the withers
- My inside leg has a mind of its own :p *flap flap*
- My inside leg is too far back on the left rein (I blame being used to my GP ;) )
- My shoulders aren't back far enough (back to riding with a crop behind my back )
- I tip forwards

I can't believe the difference between my lesson and our "private" schooling sessions - obviously I'm too lenient with myself :D

On the plus side, being yelled at yielded some good results in the end :D
- Jerry has decided that he can work in an outline in a snaffle
- Horse was working nicely and engaging his hocks (eventually haha)
- We managed some decent shoulder in (never done it with Jerry)
- We did some nice leg yield in canter, and
- We started half pass

So, any tips on how to stop my naughty legs drifting too far back other than gluing them to my saddle? :D
I have tesco's cookies-and-cream cupcakes to offer ;)

I have an issue with my light leg slipping back and putting less weight in that stirrup so the leg is shorter - the only thing that works for me is riding without the left stirrup (although I though instructor was mad and evil when she first suggested it!!)

Oh no, im having a lesson this weekend first one in many months even though i do school her on her flatwork, jumping etc like you said its suprising how many bad habits you do pick up, i'm dreading it in a way!!!

I agree with ASH493 take your feet out of the stirrups, also try bareback it does get your seat working properly (tip to far forward it can be a bit sore on the groin  you wont do it for long), conker that and your legs should fall straight.

Goodluck! One of my old instructors used to take my saddle off in the school when she said i wasnt sitting correct and my legs wasnt wrapping around the horse tidy and after a few slippery slides it worked (oh and a few bruises along the way lol). Let me know how it goes :)
