The Difference Between Horses and Humans

[ QUOTE ]
Because some people are special...... ( I include myself in this bracket)

My horse has pj's, armpits, hands and feet. Stands to Poo and wee. My buckets are washed out and actually disinfected occasionally... in the winter I warm the bit on the car heater and I talk and ask him questions such as "do you want your rug" "apple or carott" and I also wave at him when i get to the yard or leave the yard.

I do this becasue I am as daft as he is and to me he is not only my horse but my pet and my friend. I am a happy hacker and maybe because of this and the fact he is my first horse the relationship is different.

This aside he is fed a balance diet and not over indulged, he has manners on the ground and is healthy and happy. When he can not longer be "worked" he will graze until he looks like he has had enough or shows signs of struggling and then will be PTS. (i add this bit as I have issues with people loving them too much that it becomes unkind)

Every yard has a person like me, variety is the spice of life and all that

and God forbid if I put my girl out in a rug that clashes with her spots, she just hates it and gets totally embarrassed LOL

Poor Patches...I send her out in a rug that doesn't match the neck cover!

If the truth were truly told I am in the club of those who talk and act silly and loving with their horses but have them live lives of horses to the truest sense possible in domesticated life

I think so long as you aren't over doing it, a bit of over humanising is just plain funny.
Like putting the bed really tidy for the horse, flat and level. Murph couldnt give a poo if I emptied it in a corner really, but I feel better, I make my bed at home therefore I make his bed too lol xx

I try not to treat Chex like a human, but I'm sure I do! My old YO was really bad for it. One was that she didn't want the horses disturbed early at the weekend so the horses could get a lie in

agree..
horses eat green stuff that grows in dirt..they walk, play and sleep in dirt. Give them the choice they would be dirty/dusty. They poo all the time, fart like troopers, push, shove and kick and bite each other when they feel like it. Obviously we need to stop some of that for our own safety but all this scubbing out feed bowls, wiping eyes, nose and dock all the time, rugging etc is not always necessary...Our horses don't really care what colour rug they have on, whether its the latest or even whether we love them or not..as long as they have their basic requirements they are generally happy...
Still love mine though

hmm am not really into, excessive grooming, scrubbing bowls, the latest colour rugs, accessories and gadgets mostly because I like mine to be kept as 'naturally' as possible but I do talk to my horses and sometimes humanise them, but I would draw the line at horse loos/nappies or them eating dinner from a table

My horses are not fashion, accessories or rosette machines, I feel we have a strong partnership based upon their respect for me and mine for them as horses and I really do think that those people who have not bonded with their horses miss out on something very special.

I am guilty of chuntering away to sidney whilst grooming him all the time. A couple of weeks ago one of the little sisters of one of the yard girls was up (she must be about 5-6 ish). When she asked what i was doing i said i was asking Sid about his day. I nipped to the car to get something and came back to find her standing on a bucket talking to sid over the door. As i came up to her she turned and in best "kid talking to nutty adult" voice pointed out that this must be very boring as he didn't answer back and her mum said people who talk to themselves are mad...............she may have a point.

I find it odd that people have brought up cleaning buckets - one of my pet hates is dirty feed buckets! A horse eating grass etc is fine, but when people introduce processed foods, then they do need to be cleaned, as feed can go off! Other than that tho, I tend to agree with what folks have said - I may be batty at times, but am aware the horse is not human!
