Hi, I've been reading some threads lately that people have put their horses on loan, horror stories about sharers and people who loan/wvtb but one woman would only loan if the horse stayed on that yard, another loaned 2 days a week...is that not a share?

I thought

Loan - horse was full responsibility of the loaner, they could do what they want with that horse (within agreed terms) they pay the bills and have the responsibility of day to day care. The horse although isn't owned by the loaner treats that horse as if it was their own and keeps the horse where they like? Ideal for someone who can afford the time and money on a monthly basis but might not have a lump sum to purchase or if circumstances change can return that horse.

Share - horse normally stays with owner and the sharer contributes towards costs in turn for either a couple of days full responsibility of that horse to do as they please (within agreed terms) or turn up and ride? The days are arranged between owner and sharer and if so desired by the owner they could have a different sharer for the other days as well? Ideal for people on a budget i.e. can't afford the day to day costs of owning or maybe time poor so couldn't commit to full time owning.

Loan/wvtb - horse can either go with loaner or stay with owner but the loaner pays all costs and looks after the horse and after a pre agreed amount of time if the loaner wants to buy they pay the owner.

What's your interpretation of the terms share, loan, loan/wvtb?

For me

Sharer - keeps horse at the same place, looks after it a few days a week agreed wiith owner, pays minimal amount
Loan - can keep it where they like, take full responsability for it, pays for upkeep
lwvtb - keeps it where they like, treats it as their own with a view to buy. - Possibility to own the horse out right.

I agree with the definitions except that I think the loaner can keep the horse where they like if that is what is agreed in the loan agreement or if location isnt mentioned in the loan agreement.

The loan agreement may however stipulate where the horse is to be kept.
