Be as pleasant to them as you would to anyone else on the yard, even if you severly dislike them...nothing will get their back up more and you will have done nothing wrong. Well that's how I deal with the ignorant pig of a man on my yard! Getting upset or angry over someone who means very little to you honestly isn't worth it.
If possible be polite and stay out of their way - however, the DO on our yard talks for England and is intent on telling you her opinions whether you want to hear them or not!
Stay well clear!! If they insist on talking to you or giving you their opinion, they nod politely and carry on!
You could let them ride the "difficult horse" on the yard and then listen to their opinion after its just dragged them unwellingly around a field!!!!!!
I am the difficult one on the yard, cos I am always needing something - Scissors, chalk to write my stable order on the door, someone to hack out with my lad someone to climb into my tackroom as i've locked my keys in!!
Sorry everyone!
YO asked if would mind swapping stables with her daughter - I now have 3 stables in a row, on my own little part of the yard with my own feedroom and tap.
I stay well out of the way, and if people want to speak to me they have to make a special trip.
If DO comes round to talk 'at' me, I just nodd occasionally and carry on doing my thing, even if it means squashing them against the corridor wall with a bulging haynet......she tends not to come round much....
Don't get involved with them, simple hello and a polite smile to keep you both ticking over, keep your distance and opinions to yourself, then you are not giving them any reason to irritate you, borrow your stuff or ask for any favours.
Or....
You could not bother having a shower and cleaning your teeth for a few weeks, eat nothing but garlic and onions, get picking your snout every time they see you, bit of oss sh*t up your nails along with offering them a cuppa coffee for long discussion about yard politics every time they see you
The yard i'm at doesn't have any DO's, everyone seems to get on really well. If there was a DO i would always be polite, if they spoke to me i'd speak to them and then i'd carry on with what i was doing.
I bought an iPod, excellent purchase. Haven't spoken to "her" since May, its great, I can turn up the volume & just drown out the inane s*** which pours out of her mouth, along with the most annoying screeching laugh ever in the history of the world.
