I promised an update on my LOU claim with regard to Dizzy.

The insurance company has accepted it. Now I have to speak to the valuer.

After an in-depth conversation with my vets it has been decided that Dizzy will never jump again, nor do dressage to any level, nor will she carry a foal: if she breaks, she will break permenantly and it's just not worth the risk. She can hack, so long as no deep mud.

My dreams of competing are put aside for a while. D has said that once I'm fixed and healthy again, I should get another horse. Dizzy will not be going anywhere, she's with me for life, so that will make five horses - 2.5 broken/retired.

Life is certainly interesting...

ETA: I can't quite explain how I feel. I know the money will be nice (extra money usually is!), but I have spent two years trying to get Dizzy fit and well. So many dreams. She is still with me, so I am very lucky and I know that.

MrsM I don't know what to say except that I hope 2011 just gets better and better and better for you after a challenging 2010. And I hope you and Dizzy can enjoy those hacks together next year :)

O MrsM that's a shame. But at least you can go for lovely hacks together and enjoy each others company. Dizz is very lucky to have you!

Thankies folks.

Having lost a young horse I know the desperate wish to have my horse back, 'even if just as a field ornament', so I know how lucky I am, but I can't help feeling pants.

Will be back in the land of the normal soon.

Busy fortnight at work has made me miss something here, not sure why Dizzy is LOU but am really sorry for you, but pleased for you that you'll have a gorgeous field ornament and anyway hacking is a lovely peaceful passtime, enjoy her :D x

DW - thank you :). It's due to her pelvis - there are bony irregularities on it, which has caused lameness, secondary damage to both rear suspensory ligaments, and two seperate weeks at Newmarket. Can't be fixed.

Frustrating as apart from the two big lameness bouts (and two or three from kicks/knocks) she has been sound.

I thought that maybe we would be able to compete (dream is to BS, which is why I spent so much money on an unproven - just backed! - four year old), but she still trips every now and then (more than a 'normal' horse) and there is a possiblity that the head arguing is related to the pelvis issue.

She used to be a raving loon and is now just starting to mature and fill out and calm down a little bit.

I have LOU before you hack please make sure you have insurance my company stopped all insurance but i had been riding on the roads as they didnt tell me god knows what would have happened if we had a accident my horse will not ever jump again but can hack but they dont just stop for jumping its everything mine wasnt even insured out of the field so if he run someone over out of the field still wasnt insured. been with the same company twenty years had to change companys in the end

TA - thank you! Hope you got yours sorted. As insurance renewal is next week it has been a timely reminder to make sure Dizzy is covered to whatever extent is possible. I'm a gold member of the BHS, so have public liability cover (must check the small print though!).

A - thanks hun :). I like hacking, and you're right, it will be a good way of meeting people, etc.

I feel terribly childish, but I want to cry and cry and rail at Fate. Dizz won't mind, expect when we take the others out to shows, but I feel like I am fated to never compete. I couldn't afford it when younger and now that I can, I still can't do it! This has been going on for three years. First Tiggy's suspensories and losing her, which broke my heart, and now Dizzy. I know other go through far worse and my heart goes out to them.

O Mrs M. I don't think it's childish to be upset at all. You have had really rotten luck. I would definitely be crying at this point.

If you're ever my way you can take the brown horse out. He jumps and is the soundest horse in the world. Which seems very unfair given that you lavish medical attention on yours and he is more or less ignored and you get the lame one :( Life can be so poo sometimes!

Thank you J :). You are a sweety of the sweetiest variety :):)

The next horse I get shall be ignored to the nth degree! No physio/saddler/Bowen/farrier/dentist for him/her! No rugs. No boots.

Pah. Boots. Getting some nice tendon boots for Christmas. Won't be needing those! They can sit in a bag along with the cross-country boots.

Dizz can still wear them to go hacking :) She will look very smart in her tendon boots pootling about. Honestly, what rubbishy rubbishy news for the week before Christmas.

I'm trying to think what you could buy next which would be unbreakable but I'm struggling. Maybe a camel would be sounder? You'd cut quite a dashing scene turning up to BS on your camel with its tendon boots on.

Actually thinking about it the brown horse does look a bit like a camel. Clearly camels or camel like horses are the way forward! Dizz is obviously far too pretty. You must be a hideously ugly one next time and then you'll be fine!

Camels have spindly legs!!

So I found this one instead....

Ta for thoughts folks. It's just one of those bu&&ering things. Can't change it. Have to learn to live with it.

Can one hack competitively? Are there levels one can move up through??

Slinks - a lot of bottom lip wobbling going on here. So pathetic am I that I'm still in bed and eating chocolate. I not even that keen on chocolate any more, it just seemed fitting (no Ben and Jerrys in the house).

Oh MrsM :( *hugs*
We were in the exact same position as you this time last year :( it sucks but iv realised I dont need to be going out show jumping every weekend (although i do get very jelous of all my friends going out places) I can still enjoy walking him out and just spending time with him, imo losing 2 horses in one year is just to much so im greatfull I can still keep him!
Anyway once he is stronger and fitter I dont see why we cant do sponsored rides (at a more sedate pace :P), beach rides and even maybe a few day holiday somewhere just so we can hack in different scenery! Maybe there should be a HHO meet up for a hack somewhere :P
x
have another *hug*

Mrs M I do feel so sorry for you. However I also think you need time to mend from all your breaks and bashings about. SO maybe a good thing to delay all aims of BS-ing on your own horse for a couple of years.

I'm sure horse no 3 will be the third time lucky one and be fine, no-one could be so undeserving of such luck so far.

HaB - just to have done it once would have been good :). Holidays in different places sound good :).

DtbJ - you're right hun. Realistically I think that another horse will have to wait 'till we move (whenever that might be!), so I have pleanty of time to mooch about with the Dizz and get us both fit, plus for me to have some lessons on a schoolmaster. Losing weight as well (weightlossresources.co.uk is doing a grand job on that front :D). So, things will get better :).

Sorry to hear Dizzy still has some problems. I don't mean to sound harsh Mrs M, but with the injuries you've had over the last couple of years, show jumping might not be the ideal thing for you to be doing anyway.

Dreaming of bigger better things is all very well but IMO just accepting and enjoying your horse beats constantly battling to push yourself further competitively.

If you do get another horse I hope its problem free for you. :)

i'm possibly facing this at the moment, its rubbish as like you i specifcally bought him for competing, my horse of a life time blah blah blah. really is pants, will only know when mine is brought back in the spring as to whether he's sound or not but even then i dont know what he'll be able to do. my worst fear is bringing him back into work all going well getting my hopes up then him going lame again. what is wrong with her exactly?? i think i remember reading she has similar issues to mine... only slight glimmer of hope is my friends horse had a bad SI injury and she was told hack only. she turned her away for 18 months and brought her back hacking for a few years and last year they moved on to some low level competing and are having the time of their lives so something may be possible in the future?

I was convinced I'd posted last night - don't know what happened!
I'm sorry to hear that your worst fears have been confirmed. I bet you'll feel more positive about it all when you are fully recovered yourself. I understand why you feel lucky to be able to keep her anyway but IMO, Dizzy is also one of the lucky ones. So many people think that horses are expendable.

So sorry to see she will not compete for you but so pleased that you are able to have her.
The loss of the hopes and dreams does hurt but she will still be able to make you smile. We kept our boy for a year after completely stopping work and he made me smile every day. I hope you have her for many years to come x

Thankies thankies :)

In no order whatsoever...

Looking at Endurance. Not sure it's my thing as such, but will think about it :D

Le Trec - could be good for a giggle :). I don't know anything about it, but may well give it a go.

Jumping - it's what I want to do, what I dream of :D. I'll wait until I'm fit again (well, fitter than I was!) and go and start again from the ground up (excuse the pun lol).

Competing/pressure - I'm very competitive :D. On the whole, I thrive on pushing and being pushed :D. I like to slob and relax (D has taught me how lol), but I do like to keep doing and improving and getting to the top :D.

We had a good grooming session today :D. I told her all about it. She likes jumping, but likes being fit and healthy as well, so she'll do as she's told and will go hack :)

oh MrsM... I suppose the positive is that it is all resolved with the insurers... I know its not the outcome you'd hoped for for Dizz though. :(

(((((hugs)))))

and the offer is always here for a tootle out on Ron if you're up in this part of the world.

ETA - sounds like there's plenty you can be doing with her to keep her occupied - le Trec looks like fun, and how about teaching her tricks and stuff to help keep your bond with her?

Our RC had a taster Le Trec day earlier this year. It can be quite challenging but AFAIK every-one who took part enjoyed it. You can do it in pairs too, so it could be something to do with D1. It could be well worth looking into and the Dizzy one probably wouldn't need to be as fit as for Endurance, so that could be a plus point.

Ta folks :):)

Had a look at le Trec, well, what I could find on the net - there seems to be a limited amount of detailed information!

Dizz can do a beautifully slow hand canter (usually when being asked for a trot or even a walk, but hey, can't have everything lol), and has a long stride/fast walk, so I think that bit would be okay, though would have to check with vet re the canter speed. But! I understand there are jumps in the obstacle section? One can miss them out, but then one doesn't get points..., so how can one be competitive?

Thought. Off to post this as another thread and see if there are any Le Trec afficiandoes hiding in the undergrowth who are happy to come out and tell me all about it :D

It's still not jumping and that makes me sad, but I'm doing my damndest to pick chin up off the floor, be thankful that I'm not looking at having to accept another absolutely pants and beyond decision, and getting on with being with my beautiful girly :D. Though if her manners today are anything like yesterday....! She will stand still to have her rug done, she just needs reminding every now and then :cool:
