The Dog House Christmas Special

We watched it too, Ava the GSD is the most perfect girl. She seems to be doing wonders for her new owner. I too thought they wouldn't be a match! All of last nights dogs and families were lovely but I could have taken the escape artist terrier home. So glad she got someone in the end!

We used to always watch that programme and talk about what our dog would be like so it was nice to watch it with her for the first time lol.

I missed the beginning and Ava's story but lovely to see her so happy, though not sure using a ball thrower is a good idea. I'm so glad Ziggy got a home , I have to admit I was a bit concerned at the kids putting their face so close to a dog they had only just met.
Yes agreed. Ava is just a youngster and didn’t look particularly strong on her three legs so a ball thrower would be the last thing I’d propose using but they do seem very happy together, which is great.

Did you see the other young shepherd they had in too? They thought she was too reactive to other dogs for this particular lady but hopefully she will get a good home too.

I do watch it but find it a bit too sweet, especially the receptionist who I would think isn’t an Wood Green employee.. Adopting from Wood Green on this program seems so easy but in real life it’s not!!! It may have changed but when I tried to adopt a lurcher they wouldn’t let me as I had Guinea pigs indoors even though I had just lost my previous lurcher and my pigs didn’t get eaten . However they were prepared for me to look at other breeds , i was trusted enough to keep my pigs safe from a collie type but not lurcher….

I think they go through the same application process as anyone else.

I happened on it by accident last night, not having seen it before but loved it. I too was worried about flinger being used with AVA .... I would have taken Ziggy like a shot she was lovely.

Do they literally choose just one dog to show to families? I’d want to see a variety to see who was a good fit. Never thought I’d want a whippet, but the Irish Dogs’ Trust video has entirely changed my mind!

I was breaking my heart listening to Ava’s adopter’s story about her ex ripping down the Christmas decorations.

It seems that way!

When we got Fodhla I was so nervous I'd pick the wrong dog, because we had to make applications for individual dogs. We missed out on two and then got invited to meet two from different rescues, but we only met Fodhla for a finish.

I would quite like to have met a few dogs like you say.

It’s a bit twee but I like watching it too, love seeing the salukis they have knocking around. Would have taken Ziggy home in a heartbeat!

4 adults in this house were sitting snivelling, including OH who "doesn't like dogs" (despite having one on his lap at the time and another staring at him adoringly). But I did say "Every vet in the country will be wincing!" when the new owner was using the ball flinger with Ava the 3 legged shepherd x.

I have had several collies over the years and wouldn't have trusted one of them with a guinea pig! But how ridiculous anyway about the lurcher, as if you would be stupid enough to allow the piggies to roam around the house with a lurcher following them!

I would have definitely brought Houdini home with me, we have already had to do all the work to contain one dedicated escapee labrador on a half acre paddock for the pair of them, so the little chap would have been quite safe here. :)
