Just got a whopper on our D. Been looking for advise and it's been pretty inconclusive so far... Looked into The Equilaser, might be getting one of those to hire. Looked into Bone Ridiol - very mixed reviews on that one, some swear by it others say its bull! - and a friend suggested bandaging half a lemon to it! (Getting desperate!)
Anyone got any tricks or techniques or treatment that at the very least shrinks them, or are we going to have to learn to live with it? :(
Thank yoooou!

I may be corrected on this, but splints are pretty normal & nothing to get alarmed about. When they first show up, they are soft & tender & you need to avoid high impact activities. They then harden & may shrink. Normal activity can then resume. They generally don't disappear, which could be a problem if you are showing at a high level, but not elsewhere.

I had a C that got one as a 2yr old and it was gone by the time she was 4. One thing that did help a little was bioflow boots. I tried splintex and the like but no real difference really. I showed her too and some judges noticed it some weren't worried by it and only one made an issue of it!! We did ok and got placed most times out.

I wouldn't worry about a splint, unless it is right under knee or horse is hopping lame (when it could have broken the splint bone) - one appeared over night (and I check legs everyday!) and never had any heat/lameness from the splint! It just arrived :p

I always put front boots on to ride though, just in case :)

Thank you for advice :) We don't really compete at a high level any more but it's just a shame cos he has such nice limbs otherwise and is an extremley straight-moving Section D.
The Bioflow boots, are they the magnetic ones? We had them for Windgalls once they did work really well :)

My horse got one last year as a 4yo galloping round the field when it was really hard. A winter of splintex and rest and its basically not there now :)

If you can get hold of some DMSO, I would apply that.

Only thing I have found to help with splints apart from time and rest.
