I know a few of you were following his story so thought id do an update.. for thoose of you that dont know.

In feb this year myself and a friend bought an 18.2 dressage horse. he was on the livery yard i was on, hed not been looked after well and Id decided it was about time the lad had his rug off (im not kidding same rug had been on all winter) and what I found was a bag of bones I was appalled further more when i approached the owner of the stud/livery yard and hes answer was its getting hay (the owner of the horse was renown for not paying bills or bothering to turn up to the horses) so I was left with 2 choices RSPCA or buy the horse.. well I bought him. it wasnt easy, the yrd owner wanted me to set up the bloke on the cash hand over so he could take the money from him. I wasnt willing to do this, so yard owner then kept saying that hed still take the horse in leiu of payment .. in the end the horse got put in a trailer a couple of months later and that was that.

the horse we knew had some sort of injury. the chiro i used (at this point 3 of us owned the horse and 1 person was adament we got this bloke.) any way he said that the horse had a rotated pelvis and treated him.. ummm
As it turns out the 3rd person pulled out of the sale and just recentley me and other owner, got a 2nd opinion. the osteo said NO NEVER a rotated pelvis he had in fact had a hip fracture that had never been treated, poor boody horse.

any way.. the upshot is he is now in ridden work.. .i cant get a saddle to fit him and i dont want to comprimise on raising it to get it off his withers SO we either use a racing saddle with a couple of poly pads or ride him bare back. ! after not being ridden for a year thishorse has never puta hoof wrong, he lets all the kids sit on him in the stable and tolerates most things!

so were on the final leg of his journey, he is now being gentley advertised for sale (im not pushing the sale but want to start looking for the right home for him) work wise hes being built up slowley with mainley walk and canter work.

thats not me riding!

hes amazing in himself, so so soft and has been nothing but a gent to ride, he loves going out hacking i actually think being back in work has helped him.

hes been beaten in the past and has had some food aggression issues, but hes through thoose now with a lot of time and work to rebuild his trust.

i swear if its possible this horse is grateful .
 
ahhh bless,amazing horse in 1st pics!!!! So did the hip fracture repair itself???with just rest?? will he now be sound for work??
How old is he???(im not looking to buy??just interested in the case).
Well done you 4 taking him on, if only most people were as kind and you!!!!!

the hip fracture has healed itself, Were not sure how hold it is, but we think around 2-3 years... but the result is a huge amount of incorrect muscle where hes spent a long time compensating, on the side it is he kind of swings hes leg under him, were now working to rebuild the mucsle on the quarters and get him opened up a bit more. the osteo made an instant difference to him.

he is 100% sound, and so far has no signs of arthuritus etc but from what i know about him hes not had a very hard life ie never been worked in to the ground etc.

hes 14 this year,

the issue with saddles is the dips around the withers meens that any saddle currently sit on his withers, size wise hes no a problem.. its just the withers, im hesitant to put any thing on him that will push a saddle up as the fit of the saddle is ok, it will compromise this which inturn could just stop the muscles building up.

The osteo was amazed at the racing saddle.. she said she had never thought about it and it was an excellent solution. Linny is such a good lad that hes safe enough to ride in it, so for now think we are sticking to it and a couple of poly pads!
 
I remember you posting about him, so pleased to hear that he's improving so well and appears to be a happy lad appreciating a little bit of tlc (and food!). :) Well done you and your friend and hope you continue to see improvement and find a new loving home for him.
 
I remember your first post about him... What a difference! I'm glad he's looking so much better, he sounds like a really lovely horse, especially considering what he's been through.
 
thank you guys, he still has a way to go, its amazing isnt it what humans put these animals through and how they come out.
When he was on the livery yard he was horrid, hed put ears back and go to bite over the stable door, but now he puts hes head down to the kids.
Ive re started a business selling horses but they still come along and manage to touch you. back breaking working, expensive but when you end up with a horse like this that turns out how is it makes every vets bill, every bag of feed. and every day of being wet and cold worth it.

Do you know how he ended up in such a state, with an untreated injury and being so neglected? He looks like he was a well educated horse so someone who knew what they were doing rode trained him at one point. Did he compete?

Well done for helping him, poor boy :(. he looks like an absolute poppet. Do you know his breeding? Does he have a brand?
 
I remember your original posts and that is a massive improvement! So glad he's going from strength to strength, he looks like a lovely horse who really didn't deserve to be neglected that way!

yes, unfortunatly Barring about 18 months I know all of history where hes been etc hed had the same owner since a 5yr. He has competed yes and has dressage points. although never competed much (in his younger days hes hunted and been shown aswell).
and again yes I know how he got in this state. he was on a livery yard I was on it was one day when i peeled back his rug that had been on all winter the extent of his condition was discovered.

breeding wise hes part ID and registered sports horse.

every thing is know about him right back to the day he was born.
The lady that had him from the breeder is very well known in the showing world, and we went to see her as somebody she knew saw the original threads on here and they were appaulled. I saw her last week aswell and let her know how he was doing.
 
So sad that people would treat a horse this way :(. But at least he's found an angel in you! please keep us updated on his progress. I was asking about him because in the piaffe photo I thought he looked familiar, very like a horse I used to see out competing around 6 years ago, but I don't think it is the same horse.

It's amazing to see first hand the state some people let these lovely horses get into. I bought a gorgeous chestnut, in v similar condition to your chap when you got him (you could see the dents in each vertebrae he was that thin!) wormed him had his back and teeth done, fed him up, generally just loved him back to life, and when he was finally ready to be ridden it turned out he was really well schooled and knew all the tricks, and was also a complete gent. Passed a 5 stage vetting and is a much loved member of the family living in Guildford.

I often thought throughout his rehab that maybe he would fail the vetting, maybe he would turn into a monster and that mental and physical reasons were the contributors to him falling into such terrible condition, but no.....just appalling treatment at the hands of people

Well done you, you deserve a big bar of choccy and a great big hug for doing a good deed, karma will pay you back with good luck I hope :)

ETA - Hahhahahaha I just re-read your post then looked at the pics again I love the shot where he is 'having food issues' with the goat but the goat is oblivious! hahahah :)

If I could, I would snap your hand off for him. Sadly the days of me being able to ride anything so big in anything other than an armchair are long gone!
He is the spit of a horse I used to ride who was/is (if he is still with us) the softest most gentle animal ever.
Well done. He is a credit to you.

LOL its an odd looking sheep.. and it did push its luck and get told to sod off in the end !!! linford is very tolerant of most things in most situations!

HALFSTEP .. he has in the past few years been kept in your direction so you never know.. any names of venues?
 
He looks so much better, well done for rescuing him.
I would try one of those pads mentioned above, having looked at their site I will send for one for us, the concept is perfect for high withered horses, and the fact they mould to the horse shouldn't affect muslce build up.

I will contact them now and ask their opinion. proberely a handy thin to have about any way ! , the piccie of the lady on him bare back kind of highlights the with he has.. with nothing around it!

saddle wise had you thought about a saddle with flair in it as the air moves to accomodate him? I had this fitted in my dressage saddle as Pidge had muscle wastage due to badly fitting saddle, and it has really allowed him to rebuild the muscle back up as the air just redistributes when the muscle starts to improve. My saddler explained to me that you can fit the saddle to the muscle wastage but how is it supposed to improve? Does that make sense?

it does make sence, to be honest at the moment, I dont want to spend 100s on a new saddle, hes not doing schooling work ridden so the racing saddle is ideal, The numnha that has been mentioned may be an option, one ofmy saddle fits hes barrel/shoulds/back fine its just the height of his withers.
 
don't blame you TBH. It cost me £250 to have it put in which was a lot less than selling the saddle and buying a new one! Good luck x
 
as far as I'm aware I think so as they take the flocking out and replace it with an air bag system, and unlike cair it stays soft even when I'm sat on the saddle you can still squidge the bags easily and I'm not exactly Kate Moss size :rolleyes::p

darn, nearest palce is kent.. will have a hunt in my area and see if theres anyone that can do it..

dont suppose you know if it can be on an adjustable saddle?
