The Duct tape 'trick' - (calms horse) FB video

Can't do FB at work - is this the fake one with the duct tape on the horses nose or the real one where the farrier tapes the owners mouth shut?

Both have been around the world several times already this year.

Our farrier tried it on our two for a laugh. They don't play up anyway so it was hardly a test. All that happened was that the horses went cross-eyed and tried to catch the duct tape in their mouths!

While the camera is zoomed in on the farrier applying the tape, they bring the horse's friend over which immediately settles it, you can just see its nose in shot at the end of the video.
The horse was on its own at the beginning which is why it was playing up.

Clever! I probably stopped watching before the end, but not sure I would have noticed or made the connection anyway

Also clattering the metal stand at the start and grappling with the horse for it's leg probably didnt help, the farrier was a lot more gentle after the tape was applied

Sceptical as I may be, perhaps a panel of HHO'ers could try it and report back....?

Sometimes these way out things do work and as far as I am concerned, the jury is still out. Putting a chicken's beak down to a line drawn on the ground is a well known one and that works. So does putting a bird's head under it's wing and rocking it gently. The last has a perfectly reasonably physiological explanation. I've also heard that totally immobilising a horse and gently stroking it can have a dramatic calming effect. There are lots more.

But I'm still not convinced about join up. :) So there!
