The extent of lying in adverts... (rant sorry)

In all honesty, in all but the most exeptional cases, your requirements are mutually exclusive.

i was replying to the post about the novices wanting more than they can handle. i dont want more than i can handle, yet anyone getting the slightest whiff that i am looking for a horse wants to thrust onto me some ex racer that now events and such...its not just buyers not knowing what they are doing.

Some sellers will sell to anyone with £! If you are the buyer with the £ then you just have to keep your eyes open and have a good idea of what you are after. If you aren't experienced then you need an experienced trusted person along with you to help, otherwise you would be lucky not to wind up in the ****!

yes i have realised this, im not completely ignorant when it comes to horses i just havent ridden in a while, and i find it awful how prepared some people would be to allow me to take on their horses. its downright dangerous.

Tis true! Some people have no shame or morals!!!
I drove all the way to yorks (from south glos) to see a horse. Ad sounded just the ticket, not strangely cheap either. Called seller and asked loads of questions - all still sounded good so drove up to see horse. Supposed to be 9yo gelding, safe hack and good to handle, done some low level xc, dressage and sj. No vet issues, currently in work, no lumps/bumps/scars etc. All good I think!
Well, we get there and this 'perfect' horse is actually a 3yo just out of racing, poor sod is covered in scars, the most terrible feet and the fattest hock you have ever seen. Poor chap couldn't turn to save his life and had obviously out of work for some months at least. Saw him and went as he was so obviously not even close to the horse that was described or that we had discussed with seller. Bloody dishonest cow. However before we turned on our heel and left the seller told us how she had had a first time horse owner come to see him for a happy hacker type. Thank god she didn't buy him.
With sellers like that out there you do need to watch out for yourself, and sad as it sounds, don't trust what people say, only trust what you see in front of you.

well at the moment i am VERY interested in a foal that my gypsy freind has to offer, and haing seen it every day dogging in ( and staring/sighing wistfully at my oh) im in love.

i can trust it, as ive seen it since it was born and though it is in a typical gypsy feild with an array of other horses/ponies, it is a complete beaut. its mother is beautiful but unrideable (very long funny story) but its father is the most gorgeous easy thing going. so once he is old enough i think he may be making an appearance in my stable.

What surprises me is how few sellers keep passports up to date. If the information in there is out of date or doesn't match the history given then it makes them look instantly dodgy. There might be an honest explanation, but it makes you doubt them.

If you tell me you bought the horse direct from the breeder, it isn't surprising that I question why there are other names in the passport - doh

I've been looking for a horse for well over 3 months now. I'm hoping my search is near its end, as I've got some crackers lined up to view this week :D

In this time, I have viewed a lot of horses who have not been as described.
The horse I am trying to buy will need to be suitable for my novice husband, so some of the horses I have looked at have been advertised as suitable for a novice, and OMG they have been the worst horses I have seen!!!!!
I think sometimes 'suitable for novice' may actually be code for 'horse has vices, bad conformation, awkward gait, but hopefully you won't know because you're novice"

I did an 8 hour round trip, only to view a lame horse! Owner said it's just his way of going, and theres nothing wrong with the horse!

I viewed a horse who was supposed to be 100% clip, shoe, load, no vices, etc, etc. Then I got my clippers out of the car and the owner turned white! LOL I didn't buy the horse. If she lied about that, she probably lied about lots of things!
I don't mind if the horse needs a drop of sedalin to clip it. I'd rather be told the truth!!!!

I have seen numerous horses with extremely poor fitting saddles. In every case the horse is either objecting or underperforming because he is obviously sore, and the owner seems completely oblivious! I am really shocked how many people plonk saddles which are totally unsuitable onto otherwise nice horses. I have seen horses with severe muscle atrophy due to their criminally ill fitting saddles!
I have rejected all of those horses, as I don't want to take the risk of sorting out back problems caused by someone elses negligence. I must point out all the horses I am looking at are over £5k so should'nt be welfare cases where you'd expect to have to spend a few months re-habbing !!!!

I've had 3 horses fail vettings, but they were lovely, and I don't think the owners could have predicted either. I really liked one in particular and it was such a shame, but he's not going to stay riding sound for much longer probably :(

Who-ever finds his way into my stable will be a very lucky horse :)
