I've got myself a new farrier since I was using the same one as the lady who shares my barn but my horses have gone too long, they were getting long feet, I was so embarrassed and after the lady who shares my barn still hadnt booked our farrier and said she couldnt get hold of him I found another one.
I have always rebooked at the time the farrier comes to do my horses and stupidly thought she did the same, but she doesnt, and it was now been almost 10 weeks since they were last done
Anyway, he came today, I warned him before he came that the ginger pony was nervous and also had a bit of an attitude, decided to do her first and in true Flicka form, she danced around, kicked out several times and caught him once
Ironically it was the same finger a shire with stringholt stamped on last week
I hope she hasnt broken it
Once he finally managed to trim her he looked at me and said "Are the other three this bad?"
The other three were fine, Asbo pony moved a bit but he gets bored and once he found that eating my jumper and the leadrope was quite entertaining he stood still.
Farrier said to me afterwards that its always nice to do a difficult pony first thing on a Monday morning - he started her at 7.30
He has put natural balance shoes on Matti who has rubbish TB feet and is coming back in 6 weeks.
When he left I asked him if he could feel his finger and he said sort of
I will make sure I have biscuits for him next time so he has something to dunk in his coffee
I am so pleased I have found another farrier, he returns my calls, was quiet and calm with Flicka even after she booted him, has booked me in for next time and I think he is reasonable, it was £120 for shoeing with the natural balance shoes and three trims
She's so much better with me now, although still has her moments. But with new people she panics and tries to run away and then puts the boot in if she cant
I am hoping with time she'll chill out with strangers, but in the interim its difficult
This is the naughty ginger one
