I don't think we will ever know as there will be so many groups trying to blame each other.
A ridiculous and cruel waste.
We had for a while one of Shergars grandaughters to help look after when we were in Newmarket...she was such a lovely mare.
Well, it sounds like a load of sensationalist crap to me. tbh, if it was really crawling with police and possible informants everywhere, to the extent that the gang daren't move the horse or turn it free in a field somewhere, i can't believe the racket they would have made doing that (not going into details in case some people haven't read the whole thing) wouldn't have been noticed.
what a load of rubbish. i read a similar story about his final days a few years ago, and it wasn't as sensationalist as this, put it that way.
R.I.P. poor Shergar.
Sadly I think it rings very true. Much worse things things happened during Ireland's turbulent history without people knowing, or knowing in many instances but being partisan, or terrified for their own and their families.
I am old enough to remember the IRA at the height of their violent actions, and there is a host of literature and testimonials to describe the unspeakable things that went on.
have to say, i heard another theory today. and i must say, i pefer it!
"story was that they found out that shergar had turned infertile after the 1st year of breeding, (no idea how!) and that the syndicate would loose all their money. SO a plot was made, and that the horse would be kidnapped organised, as the syndicate was insured for theft, so they would get their money for the loss, and ole shergar lived out his days in some part of ireland, and conviently for the syndicate the ira were blamed"
think i prefer that one! but not sure how true it is.
Interesting reading; really just reiterating one of the stories published a number of years ago. I doubt we will ever find out what happened to him but it seemed plausible the first time I read this theory and it still seems plausible now.
Little bit like Myra Hindley - unless someone who was actually there admits what happened, then doubtful the horse's remains will ever be found.
i am sickened but i dont believe that is what happened. its funny but sometimes even the most hardened criminals have soft spots for animals and in ireland they love horses even in the cities ther are children with ponies in the garden. i never lived in a place beore or since where the general population loves horses so much. doubtless these men did worse things to other humans but they would have considered them fair game. i think they killed the horse but i dont think this is what they did. its not hard to shoot a horse like the article says, especially a quiet one. Even if you didnt quite kill it with first shot you would certainly deck it and make it easy to finish the job quickly. they never would have been able to properly clean up that much blood if they had done it with a machine gun, and richocets and stuff in such a small space would likely have killed or damaged the shooters, that is if the panicing and dying horse didnt, and then they would have had to remove the carcass without anyone seeing. i think its mean to run this story past the conncetions when there is no real proof only the words of someone who, i think its fair to say probably likes to shock. the reporter should know better.
Wow - we have a Shergar grandaughter - I thought it was her in your pictures until I saw the Blaze - ours has a star, she raced until she was 3 (Fleurance), she lolls her tounge out too!
I had been clinging on to the hope that he had been sold or hidden away, what a horrible way to go, lets just hope it wasnt true
