Orla and Finella

For dear Shady, and anyone else who's interested, here are Orla and Finella. I put them together this afternoon and then sat in the field for a couple of hours watching them. Nelly is definitely the boss but all she did was pull a few faces really :o

Orla - I love those curvy ears!

Thanks chaps :) They seem content which is lovely. Nelly (my Highland) is doing her best to reduce the grass to nothing :p I've weight taped them both today and they'll be dieting from now on in :o

Lovely photos! What a fabulous pair they make!

I watched the Ridden Highland class at GYS yesterday, I would say you are not alone in your struggle with the weight but you seem to have managed it better than some owners/producers of Highlands.

Thanks Pearl :) Before we went to live away I was riding a lot and Nelly was very fit and very, very trim for a HiPo. She's more or less retired now and has changed shape a lot but I am determined to keep them both at a healthy weight. I agree with you about some of the producers though. You do see some lovely ponies but some are fairly rippling and wobbling around the ring and they still get placed :(

Congratulations! Nothing nicer than waking up to your horse outside the window! (Or quite literally as we did one dark evening peering through the window...woops!)
Did you have two anyway or have you had to get a companion?

Thanks Shady. I've always loved your avatar picture :) Orla is a total sweetheart but (to answer your question too poiuytreuwq :) ) she's new to me. I used to have two Highlands but am now down to one so Finella needed a companion. I don't know anything about Arabs but Orla was bred at a stud in Austria according to her passport, which is in German.

Congratulations. There really is nothing better than having your horses at home. I still sit in the field watching ours, such time wasters.

Lovely looking matchy ponies. My ponies would be very jealous of the grass.

Hurray, you've got them home at last!

What a lovely pair they make. Orla's very posh looking for a rescue companion, do you know her history?

You've got a lot of grass, it's all burnt off and brown round here.

Thanks Tiddlypom :) I've got Orla's passport and she comes from an Arab showing stud I think, in Austria. I've always loved the look of Arabs so I picked her out straight away and I was really pleased that they were happy for me to have her. There's less grass today so I'm going to change the arrangement of the electric fencing :p

Thanks Asha :) I've got to admit that both me and OH have been getting up in the early hours just to watch the ponies from our bedroom window for half an hour or so :o

There's nothing quite like it, is there? I hope you can enjoy them in a long retirement, it looks ideal.

I would be interested to see that Snowy, i bet Faracat would too :)
I absolutely adore my Arab, he is the gentlest horse i have ever known and the most affectionate, he also takes his job of looking after me very seriously , which is just as well as i am a rubbish rider compared to nearly everybody on here:D
There is a Highland mare near me who came over with her sister from Scotland( who sadly died), i had never seen one before and she blew me away with her movement and beauty, I often stop to give her a pat when i ride past her field, both my horses really like her:)

Congratulations Snowy, your girls are home.. woohoo :) I bet you're so excited and wont be able to stop looking at them, especially as they are so gorgeous. I'm so pleased for you, enjoy every minute :)
