Although many years ago I went on a riding holiday in the Brecon Beacons and we rode UP some steep slopes but had to walk back down them leading the horses. Much more sensible IMO

I've been down it .... seriously!
However it was minus horse, after a bottle of wine and on my arse

Sober and on top of a horse, no way!
 
I rode an Icelandic in Iceland last year and I'd trust him to do it, we rode over terrain I wouldn't usually dream of taking a horse over and at one point I had to help do some herding and without thinking (and without realising quite how steep it was) I rode him down a drop from the road onto a field, not very high to be honest but very steep and rocky but he just wandered down it like a mountain goat and tolted off at the bottom! Although at 13hh we'd go under the rails at the bottom!!
 
I wouldn't and I wouldn't even do the jump on top - 3ft 5 white poles ON TOP of a 10ft 6 bank - no thanks

Erm nope from me lol. I tried a tiny bank the other day with my side saddle on, almost had to shut my eyes in fear. I think my horse would just tumble down in, bless her.
 
my boss jumped down it years ago , I say jumped, her horse wa sone of the few that actually jumped off the top! She was on some pretty strong pain killers at the time as had hurt her shoulder and felt very woozy, think this made it worse! lol!
 
Of course I'd have a pop at. I know he'd not go up it in a million years, so coming off the top would never be an issue! Unless someone installs an elevator or crane that is!
 
I've never had the opportunity but my daughter, aged 14 and not the world's bravest, decided to enter a "derby" class on my 15.1 cob who's really only a 14.2 with big withers. It was a 3'3 class and he was by the far the smallest and she was the youngest rider. I don't think she knew what she had let herself in for! He had a silly little fence down but went up and down the bank and over the fence at the bottom as if he'd been doing it all his life. There was only one clear out of around 60 entries and my daughter was 9th overall on 4 faults.

Next time she's feeling "wussy" I must remember to remind her of it!

Unfortunately after F's efforts yesterday I think he probably would be game for it!
 
I'd do it !

I've jumped a few Derby Banks...including the one in ring 2 at Hickstead (a LOT smaller than the 'real' one)...for £40k i'd certainly give it a go

I would deffo do it! Where I used to hack out we rode down sheer mountain sides a LOT, with gravelly stones and dirt moving with us and far longer than the Derby bank - scared quite a few clients doing it too

No way with the jump on the top or the rails at the bottom but possibly down the side they come down for the speed derby without the jumps. I've a friend who rode round the speed derby and the derby trial but even she said she wouldn't attempt the "bank proper".

Yup, I remember that! he hopped over the jump on the top and just kept going! Then another year the reins snapped en route to the last fence, but Annette managed to turn him around and jump it anyways!

I might have tried the bank on my mare, we'd a steep hill where I used to ride that I wouldn't go near, but she tanked off with me and galloped down it - with me screaming like a banshee - when I'd recovered from the shock I thought "that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be ...!
