Those who saw my post last week know I entered Herbs into a dressage show on a spur of the moment thing. :o

Well Sunday dawned. (Well not to begin with our time was 8.30am  So it was a 6.30 start in the dark) I kept him in over night to keep him clean and he rather enjoyed having hay to eat. :p
I got him ready and firmly attached his red ribbon to his tail ;) then waited for my lift to arrive. I had said I wanted to leave at 7.30 so as Herbs didn't load very well they should get to me about 10 - 15 mins passed 7. But as usual they were late and didn't get to me till 7.30  Herbs true to form refused to load and we didn't leave till 7.40. :( It should have only taken 20mins to get there but we got lost so we didn't arrive till 8.10. When we arrived the gate was locked so I had to go find someone to open it. I ended up only having 5mins to walm Herbs up :( But there was another horse in the warmup with us and Herbs didn't try to kill them so that was good ;) :D. I had a quick trot round and a very brief canter on each rein. Herbs was going well. We were called in and Herbs suddenly changed.
He was very worried about being in an indoor school. (He's never been in one before) and he just switched off. He does this as a way of coping. He never realy spooks He just switches off.
I just rode the test as best I could. Trying to get him awake again. We managed to canter on both reins on the correct leads but he broke both times. I didn't want to push him to much as if he gets realy stressed he'll just lie down.
Anyway we did it and thats all I care about :D
This is the test (It cuts out near the end as my card ran out of room :( Our halt at the end was fab ;) )

After the test Herbs refused to load again  But we got the lungelines out and he soon went in ;) I went home chuffed to bits with my little man. Later when I went back to see the results I couldn't believe we got 59% No where near the placings but about halfway down the class. (there was 33 in the class) So I'm very proud of our first attempt at this level. :D The judge was lovely about him and just said he needs to be more forwards :p

Please please no Crit constructive or otherwise. I'm fully aware i'm flapping at him, My reins are to long, I'm leaning back ect ect........ He was totaly switched off and I was doing all I could to keep him going. (and I'm a crap rider anyway ;) :o ) This little guy has come such along way from the pony I bought 3 years ago and i'm so proud of him.

Thankyou for reading my post and watching the video. :D xx

Well done! My boy had his first prelim yesterday too- but he has a bad back apparently-Im a evil mummy for not realising his bad behaviour was pain related not just due to clipping.
He did well tho tried to ditch me in warm up as spinning and rearing just before called in. We got a 56 % which i was pleased with considering. Physio booked for Wednesday.

You bad bad mummy dizzydancer ;) I hope his back turns out to be ok. Well done on your dressage :). I was aiming for a score in the mid 50% so was amazed at my score.

Oh I forgot you were going - I meant to send a Good Luck message, sorry!

Well done both of you - I know you said he was a bit switched off, but there were some lovely moments, and he did so well for a first attempt indoors.

I dont know how you can even remember the test, let alone ride it! :D

Well done - hope you are planning your next one. :) xx

dizzydancer LOL Herbs is slower than a slow thing anyway ;) :p

ailbheg thankyou I think he's cute to but then i'm biast :D

SallyBatty thankyou. Thats his favourate part of the test :p

Thankyou Sprout. He carries himself beautifuly doesn't he :) I think he'll do well one day. :D I can only remember one test but I think Herbs would die if I made him to two tests at one show ;) :p :D I'm hoping to take him again if I can find someone to take me :)

Well done Laura, whatever he does, however he does it, he is a dude! (ok, sometimes a naughty dude, but a dude all the same!) I think you rode him very well, so don't be too harsh on yourself.
Onwards, for the next outing? x

Love the not so horrid one!! :D
What you did for Lucy you are doing all over again for him they are such lucky ponies :) can't believe how far you've got with him you should be so proud!

Thought as much, just like mine - although thankfully he has improved a lot since I have a bd trainer. He is lovely in the warm up but as soon as you get in the test he totally switches off from everything. I'm yet to try and prelim as I just do w&t tests but this has made me want to try one. He does the same canter as my new forest too - the effortless drag themselves along as slow as possible canter lol! Love them :D

Oh well done to both of you :D Totally understandable he zoned out a bit at the new scene... indoor schools are scary echoey blighters:rolleyes: Im sure that a few more sessions and he will be a pro indoors :D I have absolutely no criticism as I just think he is adorable and I love to hear the horrid ones updates and antics :D

montyforever Thankyou :D I'm so proud of him. I knew he could be a nice pony if he tried. :D Well nice most of the time anyway ;) :p

rachaelstar LOL Herbs goes well in an out door school. Our first two tests were walk and trot out doors and he came 2nd and 1st. When he gets scared or worried he just shuts down and if I push him to much he'll lie down. Like he does on the lunge  Good luck with your NF hope you have a go at prelim. The one I did is good as you just canter (Or Drag yourself ;) ) round the outside ;) :p :D It was prelim 7 :D

Queenbee Thankyou. It was a spooky indoor school. Loads of mirrors, the galery at the end and halfway down one side was a small window where you could just about see movement in the carpark. Alot of horses found it hard to cope in there. Someone was elim in the second class. I felt he coped better than I thought he would so am pleased with that. :D

Well done!!!!!!!!!!

Now I know you said no CC...but I don't care, that's forums for you everyone does their own thing.;) I will CC because I want to say that you are faaaaaaaaaaar too tough on yourself. Your position is lovely, your hands/arms in the correct place, your back is straight, your legs are long, and you did a wonderful job which is not easy when a horse is not forward going. As for the Horrid One, he did great as well! He just needs a wee bit more time to get used to things and if he's never seen an indoor before it's completely normal that he would get a bit worried. You got round and you did in style, success!

Well done both of you!!!! Onwards and upwards!

Booboos thankyou for your kind words :o I've had years of people telling me i'm rubbish. Most people I know tell me how crap I am at riding. Which is prob why i'm so hard on myself :(. I know i'm not perfect but to me it's all about having fun and giving Herbs the life he deserves.
It's not the CC I mind realy it's the way some people give it then when I try to explain why i'm doing things in a certain way people get offended.
I realy don't care if I don't look prity sat on a horse as long as i'm not hurting it thats all I care about. :)

Well Done :D:D:D He is so cute!! Some lovely moments in the test and for his first time in an indoor he was brill :D:D:D Next time you'll be well and truly in the 60's %age wise :D:D:D

I survived my test too, gingerface was ace in the walk trot test but judge didn't think so so she got her lowest mark in it yet even though she did it the best she has ever done

We survived the prelim too, got canter on both reins with the aid of a bit of 'pony club' kicking :D:D all in all was very pleased with her gingerness :)

I didn't want to push him to much as if he gets realy stressed he'll just lie down.

Ahhahahaha that made me laugh out loud!! :D What a dude! 'I've had enough, we're stopping for a kip'. How cute :) Well done on a great first test result. I can empathise with having a...ermm...less than forward pony. Keep at it and keep your aids insistent and soon you'll be gliding around tests with a big smile on both your faces :)

amymay Thankyou. He didn't look to bad considering he only has half a mane ;) :(

Bright_Spark thankyou :D

ElleSkywalker Thankyou. I'm trying hard not to get to excited about it but I think once we get organised he may be rather good:) Glad your day went well. Shame about the judge though. I had lots of days like that with Lucy. I thought she went realy well but the judge slated us :( I do wonder is they are actualy watching sometimes

AbFab he does do that. Heres the video (anyexcuse to post it ;) :p )

Lazy ponies are anoying. I rode Lucy in spurs but my legs come below Herbies belly (He's such a shortarse) they wouldn't do me any good on him  :o

I love posts about your pony he is so lovely, well done to you both and stop being so hard on yourself, I think he was rather good for first time in an indoor and you look very smart and he looks handsome as usual.:)

Well done both of you - give yourself a break, it's much easier to sit there and look pretty when the pony doesn't down tools on you before you start - and believe me I know ;) Much better to be effective than pretty and ineffectual, any day!

ponypilotmum next time he's being horrid i'll send him your way ;) :p :D

ElleSkywalker glad it's not just Herbs. He has done it twice while I've been riding him

Trinity Fox Thankyou. :)

JFTD I'm deffinatly more of an effective rider ;) Also don't think sitting there looking prity would help much when alot of the horses I ride spend alot of time on two legs, leaping around. :p :D
