The horrid ones second attempt at prelim stressage.

I meant as in you either asked for CC or didn't say that no, you didn't want any.

If you'd said no CC, and people had started, I'd have defended you too. I'm like that.

That is what most of the forum have already said, I find it silly to pander to a grown woman.

Well go away then and don't post. Many many posts ask for CC and get none- find them, love them, use them and abuse them. Do what the heck you like to them. Jut leave the people who don't want your advice alone. Simples.

Actually, I'm going to leave it here. Banging my head against a brick wall is boring and pointless and I hope Laura (who has the bravery and gumption to post under her real name as well, rather than hiding to be cruel) appreciates that not everyone round here believes being nice and polite and encouraging is beneath them :)

Lolo I think you are being unfair towards those that have been polite but offered genuine advice for the good of the pony :( we have a duty to speak up and advise more comfortable methods and that has been done sensitively I think.

Likewise, i remember when your photos of your sister were taken down.

Im really not a horrid person, BUT, ive had plently of cc when i didnt ask for it. :)

Harsh and unpleasant, I take it that *lolo* is YOUR real name then

Whoa! This thread has got a little out of hand!

TBH I can see both sides here, yes the test was uncomfortable to watch and I do agree that if you put something in the public domain, you cannot then basically say that you only want to hear positive things, it just won't happen.

BUT there is a difference between constructive criticism and getting a little too personal, there is a person with real feelings at the other end of this thread.

Gosh you see this is why I asked for no CC. Not because I think i'm a great rider infact I know i'm crap. I know I have a hell of a lot to work on. I kick to much (although I just flap and it has little effect :o ), I move my arms way to much (although reins are very loose so not as much jabbing going on as people think, loose reighns are another fault) I lean back to far. The list goes on and on.
and on this forum you can never win last test I put on here I was told to use my whip, this time I did and I get slated for it  I can promise you I didn't actuly hit him that hard. It's the noise that scares him. I often hit myself with the whip so it makes the noise and then he goes forwards :p If I had hit him hard he would have bucked me off I assure you. ;)

It was stuffy in that school. It was a very warm day for Dec. Where I live the grass is still growing

He is unfit and has his full winter coat which doesn't help at all. But this show and all shows at the mo are for expereance for me and him. He hates being indoors and this was only his second ever time. People who don't understand why he is called The Horrid one. Look back at old posts of mine and you will see why. It's now more of an affectionate name even though he can still be quite horrid. ;)

Yes I have been through a hell of a lot. Some publicly on here and lots in private but I never ask for special treatment because of it lots of people have been through crap i'm no different to them. I ask for no cc because when people start giving advice it nearly always turns into an argument. Everyone does things differently and every horse needs to be treated differently. Just read through this post. It reminds me of the school playground at times. (I place I'd rather not re visit thankyou) and i'm betting most of you are grown women or is it due to the school holidays ;) I normaly post during the day in term time ;) I haven't responded to any of the other posts lately as I've not been online. Only just come on and seen all this. I can't reply to all posts individually now as there are way to many. There is some good advice that will be taken on bored and some not very nice comments that will be ignored ;)

Herbie and I have come along way over the last three years but we still have a very long way to go. I post these updates so people who are intrested can follow are progress not so everyone can give me a pat on the back and tell me i'm wonderful because i'm not.

Please if you realy don't like me don't read my posts or put me on UI. I just try my best to do what is right by my ponies and take the best possible care of them. The clip is 4 mins of me riding. A very bad 4 mins I admit I don't ride like that at home. :( I know by posting the video I open myself up for abuse from people who don't even know me. I get enough of it from people I know I know how cruel the world is and have seen many people on here torn to shreds for posting pics and videos. Such is the way it goes on forums where grown adults post under fake names and fake id's. As I said I'll take the good advice in. :)

I hope I've cleared things up and no one takes this post the wrong way. I know this is easy on a forum as it's hard to tell what context things are written in. :o

Hi Laura - I haven't responded earlier as you had asked for no CC. I admire your last post, which shows that you are aware of your problems, and I hope you take on board some of the CC that you have been given.

However, I really do not like you calling you boy "The Horrid One", and I think that at an unconcious level that is how you think of him. He will respond to that - start calling him a complementary name, think of him in a better way and your relationship will improve.

Good luck.

Laura your pony is very sweet and when your riding has improved and you have got him off the leg your marks will improve. The main thing that struck me was your arms - they're all over the place. I used to have (and still do have sometimes!) overactive hands. I was given a really useful tip which was to tie a leadrope around the horse's neck and hook my little finger onto it. It stops you moving your hands as much as you are doing. Give it a try, it might help. :)

EllenJay Thankyou for your comment. I can assure you I love my boy with all my heart. He means the world to me and has gone from an aggressive mean pony to the quite sweet little chap he is today. He still has his moments but to be honest I wouldn't have him any other way. His horridness is what makes him him and it's not his fault he's like he is. His past has not been easy and so many people gave up on him till he came to me. He has come such a long way in the three years I've had him and i'm so very proud of him.
This is an example of things being taken the wrong way when they are written down. :o

Holly Hocks thankyou. :) His old saddle had a strap on the front. I realy should move it onto his new saddle. I think it would help with this esp at comps as this is when it happens. I'm not nearly as bad at home but them i'm not nervous at home. ;)

The problem with a strap on the saddle is that it will still mean that your hands are too far back. They need to be further forwards from what they are now - by putting the rope round the neck it's virtually impossible to move them too far back. Can you get him out hacking and really get him moving forwards?

Is it dressage leagle to have a stirrup leather round the neck? Would look better than a rope? He's not to bad out hacking unfortunately it's when he's in the school he switches off :( He is better at home and even in the warmup which was outside. I do lots of transitions to wake him up but as soon as we went indoors he switched off. Should have got my warmup filmed to.

Good reply Laura but just one thing, you have had no *abuse* at all, just CC that could not be ignored. Also I don't think any of us that have responded to your post are children and let me remind you, neither are you a child. Perhaps this post might make you more aware of the fact that not everyone likes to witness such a display of stress to a pony. He was one unhappy chap doing something that he had know idea how to do it. Neither did you.

Obviously my post was taken the wrong way again i'm sorry. I said I am not looking for people to pat me on the back. I know i'm not a child I stated that in my post and I know most who post on here are not children that was kind of the point.
I also said there was some good advice. But there were also some posts acusing me of being crule and basicly abusing my pony which would not be helpful advice to anyone and all the sniping saying i'm just out for a big pat on the back and lots of lovely comments also isn't helpful advice. Maybe I've taken some of the posts the wrong way as I've said it's easy to do and that goes for me to. I never actualy said I was "abused" in the post just that I an aware I was opening myself to abuse when posting on a public forum. Hope that makes sence. :o

What a sweet pony, u have come very far and should be proud,
However I do agree in a round about way what has been said. Get yourself a good instructor and I'll look forward to reading your next comp report!!

Definitely legal- Al refuses to remove hers :D She also uses a breastgirth which has a loop over in front of the wither, which can be picked up and held. She had one day where her hands were doing their own thing entirely and she held it to help keep them up and stable- you could hardly tell, until you looked very closely.

Just to clarify neck straps are not allowed above prelim level if run under bd rules.
OP , where abouts are you based, I would happy to come and help you if local.

Neck straps are not BD legal above Prelim. However breastplates and balance straps (the short leather strap that attaches to the D's at the front of the saddle) are.

They ARE quite legal at prelim but not above.

Well done for replying in such a mature manner Laura, I really don't think that anyone was being deliberately nasty, even if it seemed that way.

Like Charlie76, I don't think the pony is lame either, just not going properly forward, once you get some help on the ground you will come on in leaps and bounds I am sure.

I read right through this thread before watching the video, expecting to see something horrendous. Wow - some of the criticism is way ott. I saw a little unfit pony doing a dressage test - big deal. He didn't look stressed or unhappy. I agree that he needs to go off the leg more and riders hands are unstable but for goodness sake people ...
To the op - I like your attitude - but you need to believe that you and Herbie can do more. Maybe get some lessons if you can afford to do it and he certainly needs to be fitter x

rachaelstar I hate it when that happens.

Holly Hocks we normaly spend a lot of time hacking around the forest it's an amazing place to live :D Sadly we've not got out much lately due to ice and flooding and not enough hours of daylight. :( Sadly I must work to pay my boys keep ;) :p
